I like Tolkien’s work cause it goes from the hobbit, a cute fantasy children's book, to lotr, a clever and intricate story for all with some serious themes but overall a theme of positivity and friendship, to the Silmarillion where everyone dies after a painful life, families are torn apart by selfish gods and curses, and the defeat of evil is neither complete nor truly satisfactory.

It's interesting that despite having no canonical image of any silm characters (save for a handful who have one or two images) it's still somehow very easy to recognize the characters in fanart.

Tall redhead? Maedhros. Small redheads? Ambarussa. Cutie with dark and gold braids? Fingon. Soft looking guy with an instrument? Maglor. Kinda rebellious looking blond? Celegorm. Beautiful thick blond? Glorfindel. Beautiful blond lady? Galadriel. Tall beautiful dark haired lady? Lúthien. Bird dude? Manwë. Goblin looking twink? Mairon. Messy goth? Melkor. Woman in green? Yavana. Angry dark haired guy? Curufin. Emo teen? Maeglin. Disaster bisexual? Turin. And I could go on.
