I am at 7 life and have a Death's Shadow in play (it's 6/6 right now). My opponent attacks me with a 7/7 and a 2/2. I block the 7/7 with the Death's Shadow and let the 2/2 through so it deals damage to me. What happens to the Shadow? What happens to the 7/7 creature?
When combat damage is dealt in this situation, Death’s Shadow deals 6 damae to the 7/7, the 7/7 deals 7 damage to Death’s Shadow, and the 2/2 deals 2 damage to you.
Immediately after combat damage is dealt, your life total is 5, which makes Death’s Shadow now an 8/8. When state-based actions are checked, nothing happens because no creature has lethal damage marked on it. Death’s shadow has 7 damage marked on it, but has 8 toughness, and the 7/7 has 6 damage marked on it.
Death’s Shadow only deals 6 damage here because you don’t lose life from the 2/2 until after Death’s Shadow has already assigned and dealt its combat damage, and its power was 6 at that time.

I still need to decide what I’m doing with the other two shelves I have for it, but having the main level operational has really been a boon to the workflow and overall positive vibes of the shop.
Next step is to remove the Hossfeld bender and put it in long-term storage in the corner. Then I’ll move the yellow shelves down a foot or so to free up some room on the other end where I hope the Kerlin will sit. And, of course, I’ll need to do something to organize the shelves on the far wall because they’ve become a tangled mess of stuff on top of stuff.
Lots of little steps, but it’ll all come together sooner or later here at Three Rivers Forge. It’s a blacksmith’s life!
