Eddie didn’t know much about Robin up until recently. He only knew her as “Steve’s gay best friend”. When Dustin had told him about her he made sure to clarify that she was gay, and knowing Dustin, he probably only brought it up to try to get the two to bond.
Even after Robin and Eddie began to talk, she wasn’t a very open person. That didn’t bother him though, he was the same way. You could probably imagine his surprise when a guy he had never seen before walked down the stairs of Robin’s home, asking where his water bottle was. Steve gave him a small wave and Robin pointed towards the kitchen, but they didn’t acknowledge him any further, leaving him even more confused.
Eddie waited for what seemed like hours for one of his friends to mention what had just happened, but neither of them even looked up from what they were doing. Curiosity got the best of him after a while of sitting in silence. “Hey, Robs? Who was that?” His voice came out quiet, feeling as if he was intruding. Robin looked up, her eyes scanning Eddie’s face as if she was waiting for him to explain himself. “Oh your mean Y/n? He’s my brother.” She smiled slightly, making a face that suggested she thought it was obvious.
As weeks passed, Y/n began to join the group more often. Robin would drag him around to their strange hangouts. Eddie and Y/n began to grow closer, quickly becoming friends. They even started talking outside of their little friend group. They would talk on the phone for hours at night, learning quite a bit about each other. They both tended to prefer being up in the night, they both had a passion for music, all sorts of other things were discovered during their conversations.
As weeks turned into months, no one missed the way the two boys looked at each other. No one missed the way their hands lingered just a bit too long after simple exchanges. No one missed the nervous tension in the air whenever the two were close together. No one missed the overly affectionate nature of the friendship. No one except for Eddie and Y/n.
Y/n would have been lying if he said he didn’t have a bit of a thing for Eddie. He decided that he wouldn’t tell anyone about his stupid little crush. This wasn’t elementary school, after all. He wasn’t sitting in the cafeteria giggling with his friends about some boy he saw on the playground. Plus, Eddie wasn’t gay. Or that’s what he thought.
Similarly, Eddie was developing feelings for his friend. He was devastated. Y/n was his friend’s brother, and to his knowledge, he was straight. After a while of consideration, Eddie decided this was a secret that would never see the light of day. Why would he take the chance of ruining two friendships? Robin and Y/n? No way.
The two boy’s continued to dance around each other like ballerinas who were awful at critical thinking. Everyone and their mother knew that the two were practically in love. Robin and Steve were getting sick of the bullshit. Even Dustin had started getting sick of it, normally he would have been all for watching his friends suffer, but at this point they were hopeless.
Plan get it through their thick ass sculls was officially a go. Y/n and Dustin sat on the couch, Steve was setting up a movie, Robin was grabbing the snacks, and Eddie was late. The door slammed open not long after Robin returned. An out of breath Eddie stood in the doorway, a hoodie taking the place of his usual hellfire shirt, leather jacket, and vest. His ripped jeans had been replaced by some old pajama pants with patches sewn here and there.
Movie night was a ritual for the friend group. Eddie sits on the end of the couch, Dustin sits next to Eddie, usually laying his legs over Steve who sits on his other side. Y/n sits next to Steve, upside down for some reason. He swears it’s more comfortable, but that makes no sense to anyone else. And lastly Robin sits on the other end of the couch, next to Y/n.
Once everything was set up, shit started going down. Dustin sat in Y/n’s seat, thoroughly pissing him off. As the two bickered, Steve and Robin took their normal seats. After Eddie was done raiding the kitchen for soda, he came back to see the seating chart messed up, and a pouty Y/n sitting just as strangely as always, but this time, he was next to the only open spot, Eddie’s seat.
After everyone was settled down, it was oddly quiet. Y/n didn’t make his usual sarcastic remarks about the movie or start talking out of his ass because he was half asleep, and Eddie wasn’t rambling about random spoilers. Instead, the two were trying their very hardest to keep as far away from each other as the seating arrangement would allow. Both could feel the heat rise to their cheeks at the close proximity.
“Damn it! How oblivious can someone possibly be?” Robin’s outburst came seemingly out of nowhere. “You two practically drool over each other all the time. Get the memo! You like each other. Just get together already.” Robin was laughing by the end of her rant as she noticed the mortified look that fell on both of the boys faces.
“Huh?”
