Vinyl Wednesday #38 – Batworm "Regrimified"
For those of you who are into some heavy fucking punk thats thrashy, raw and in your face I give you Batworm! I’ve been seriously fucking up by not knowing about this band until just now. On their EP “Regrimified” they’ve got this blackeden influence to their sound that fucking slays so hard. The guitar solos sound Slayer-esque, their riffs (while definitely punk) are harder than most bands in the area and their thrashy side completely kills!
The drumming on this album fast as fuck, the guitar riffs are some of the heaviest and blackened punk riffs in the scene right now and the guitar leads are nothing short of amazing! The vocal work is pissed, angry as hell and yelled with an appropriate amount of disdain. The recording while clear still has a gritty feel to it and while I have yet to see these guys live myself I can only assume that this recording captures the energy of the band perfectly. I would say that if the band is better live than this recording then you are in for a seriously awesome basement show with Batworm!
“Regrimified” starts off with some heavy feed back in the beginning of “Old Gore” and with some quick cymbals and a blistering guitar lead the song explodes with a thrashy riff. Crusty vocals come in, a devolving solo scratches across the record and then this track ends by fading into “Vomit in the Snow.” This song has a pulsating progression in which brutish vocal work accompanies through out. A couple of screeching solos give stark contrast to the heaviness and just like that the A-side is done. Leaving me wanting for more I flipped the record and the seriously rocking “Why Be Deep” destroys my sense of hearing. The riffs and leads on this track make it my favorite on the record! I love how thrashy this song gets and how each riff seamlessly works into one another. The slow snarl of the vocals in certain parts make this song even that much better! Finally, “Haunter in the House” starts off with another killer riff and steady drumming that will get your head nodding to the beat for sure. When the vocals come in theres almost a growling slur to the style of singing that makes it sound so fucking evil! Then out of no where the pace triples in speed a raging dissonant solo totally kills it and to finish, the song returns to the main riff and slays your face for another couple of measures.
In totality, “Regrimified” RULES! I love how it’s not a polished recording and that all of the energy and talent of this EP is summed up in a dirty recording of quick assault thrashy punk! I picked up my copy at Sit and Spin Records because if you haven’t noticed they have the best local section in town and if you give them a quick call you can see if they have any more copies available. When they have more shows coming up we’ll let you know, for sure. Check out “Regrimified” in the player below and get stoked on Batworm!
