PAS names Baung Mosque imam as Chempaka by-election candidate
PENGKALAN CHEPA, March 8, 2015:
PAS has named Imam Ahmad Fathan Muhammad @ Mahmood as its candidate to contest in the upcoming Chempaka by-election.
The decision was announced by PAS vice-president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man at the Kelantan Islamic Training Centre (PUTIK) here tonight.
Ahmad Fathan, 42, currently serves at the Baung Mosque here, and is the deputy principal of the Perkim Dakwah Institute.
He is also the treasurer of the PAS Pengkalan Chepa division.
The announcement ceremony was attended by Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yaakob, Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah, as well as other PAS state leaders.
The Chempaka state seat fell vacant following the death of PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat on Feb 12.
Nik Abdul Aziz had retained the seat in the 13th General Election in 2013 by beating Wan Razman Wan Abd Razak of the Barisan Nasional with a majority of 6,500 votes.
Other then PAS, Kelantan Perkasa vice-president Sharif Mahmood and Umno Tumpat division member Fadzillah Hussin have both expressed their intention to contest as independent candidates in the Chempaka state by-election on March 22.
Earlier, Kelantan Election Commission (EC) director Mohamad Mahmud had said four nomination forms had been sold so far.
Nomination for the by-election is on Tuesday.
