its been about twelve hours now since i've seen the grand finale and i have some Thoughts, mostly about baxley. i'm still thinking about baxter's loneliness, about how she thought molesley was her happily ever after (and got it! and him! that proposal!!) but he was too preoccupied with his writing to notice her quiet not-quite-happiness. the only other friend she has onscreen is thomas, but thomas is gone now, has left her behind. anna is there, of course, and knows things in the way she does, but i feel baxter keeps things close to her chest, refuses to speak negatively because all things considered- she has a good life, a wonderful husband. she's miles away from where she was when she first arrived at downton. but.

i'm still thinking about molesley's "but you could leave service" and baxter's half-bitter "i've told you i don't want to leave service" and the way she says it like they've had this conversation before, like he's so wrapped up in his newly found freedom-from-service that he doesn't see that his wife loves the sort of job he left and that she finds the work she does fulfilling.

i lost the point somehow while writing this post but the grand finale baxley is not the baxley that i fell in love with in the series and the first two movies. it isn't the molesley that was baxter's friend first, the one that listened to her and encouraged her and that is what really bothers me about all of their scenes.
