Lucian doesn't have a very difficult past or things that shaped him in dramatic ways. He's always been a bossy child. Malcolm taught him and Bethany how to use their powers, and Bethany was always a much better student. Lucian absorbed the knowledge he learned and put it immediately to the test and craved more, and became aggitated when Malcolm told him to slow down and thing about the magic he's performing. Malcolm always knocked Lucian off his high horse to push him to work harder and force him to think. Which, obviously, he hated, so he has a negative memory of Malcolm, but he learned not to underestimate anyone and not to brag blatantly. He always thinks he's the greatest shit ever, but at least he learned to keep it to himself. He was a cruel boy. He thought he owned Carver and Bethany and they were his to protect, so he tried to make them stay close behind him so he could take care of any problems. Bethany was happy enough to follow her big brother and was very good at being the gentle bumper between Lucian's harsh words and good intentions, and to the rest of the world. Lucian would say 'What are you, a little bitch? Why did you take that hit?' and she would say 'He means you need to stand up for yourself. Be brave.' Lucian loved Bethany A LOT. He loved Carver, too, but because of his aggression to try to get out from under Lucian's wing and to prove himself and Lucian's desire to keep him down and safe, they couldn't help but clash. Lucian was always much more cruel to him. He was PISSED when he joined the army, and never repaired the relationship because soon after Bethany was killed. Lucian cares a lot about his little brother, but he can't seem to bring himself to be gentle toward him, even as he learns how to be more compassionate when he gets older. He always reverts back to the bully he was as a kid.
