It's become a little ritual for Veronica to braid Guzma's hair to calm the both of them down. At some point, she started adding little flowers into the braids. He acts disgruntled by it, but he could never bring himself to take them off, no matter how much teasing or bemused stares he receives. Even goes as far as him sleeping with them on - tiny, delicate, pretty little charms that seem to comfort him into more pleasant, tranquil sleep.

one is frustrated with his losses while the other crumbles under her past victories...

growing up, veronica was the aimless booksmart kid. she excelled in pokemon battles at school. she had all the type matchups memorized, all the pokemon in her home region learned by heart. but she was sheltered by her overprotective parents and was only able to leave her hometown rather late, compared to her peers. this caused her to lag behind and stumble through her pokemon journey. book smart, not street smart type thing. her only strong pokemon was her main partner and brute forcing through each gym. when it came time for the pokemon league, this strat was dead as hell and after several failed attempts she came home to a family that said "i told you so" and only shamed her for even trying and still managing to make it that far... so she ends up developing the mindset that it's better to give up right away and expect defeat than be crushed by disappointment

veronica eventually runs away from home and catches a boat to unova, where she ended up figuring things out and did a lot of growing up. while shes healed enough to be proud of herself despite her failures, she still cant shake off the idea of being a failure in the eyes of everybody else….

so yeah. the fact that they both had troubled upbringings... that their respective pokemon journeys left them a disappointment... guzma lashing out in anger bc he cant be good enough for himself while veronica wallows in depression bc she cant be good enough for the ppl around her...
