2025 EDIT: THIS IS AN OLD POST. I VIEW HIM AS MORALLY GREY NOWADAYS. I see him as not a complete goody two shoes, but also NOT a villain/evil. Antagonist, not villain! He just wants to play hide and seek, teach and invent things, for goodness sake!

(WIP) Reasons why Baldi isn't evil/a murderer/a bad teacher:

EDIT: He does indeed get upset at you when you fail a math problem, but tbh most math teachers are just Like That. XD BBCR and BBIEAL are considered non-canon/retconned by mystman12 himself ( which means the whole, "baldi getting mad at you for getting a problem wrong" thing isn't canon! Sadly though, that might also mean that the cute little interactions you get with Baldi after null is removed are also non-canon ToT

EDIT: Null didn't cause the corruption, he WAS trying to warn you about it, though! I believe it's something to do with the 99 entity. And yes, Baldi is intentionally supposed to chase you, but I believe it's literally just hide and seek, like in BB+. Either that, or he lightly reprimands you or tells you the correct answer when he catches you in this game. Null is also not actually a villain. He's an antagonist. As of now (Sept 2025) there are no actual villains in Baldi's Basics. Speaking of Null... HE was the reason BBCR and the original game were like that! Once his corruption was removed, the game -and characters- went back to normal! :D

In BB+, Baldi doesn't get mad at you for failing something, he gets sad (said in his own words in the Pic-Quick-Nic minigame description!) He only seems to get angry if you fail math questions or the activities like the matching minigame and balloon minigame, although if you intentionally fail the math question in the tutorial, he strangely doesn't... In the old camping math minigame he didn't, either.... He went "ohhhhh...." Just like with the other minigames.

He is literally just playing hide and seek with you in BB+! He asks you if you want to play, counts down, and then tries to seek you while you collect notebooks! (Also multiple descriptions of the game and tutorial say that he "tags" you instead of killing/harming you.)

If he really killed/harmed students for getting problems wrong, beans would've been dead ten times over! (He canonically has dyscalculia and has been held back multiple times now.) And yes, I know about his voice lines speaking of them throwing the book at him. It's a figure of speech meaning to punish or reprimand as harshly as possible, and this expression originally meant “sentence a convicted person to the maximum penalties allowed”. I believe Principal is the one who mostly punished him, since another of his lines is "I will be sent to the guy of the Thing, smacking my head and causing a ring" Honestly though, I don't think principal was really that harsh either, that just doesn't seem in his nature... He usually just gives you detention, he doesn't hit you or anything of the sort!

EDIT: Johnny is not technically a student (I think) but you get the gist of it! His students canonically love him! Johnny practically jumps at the chance to go on a field trip with him, and usually says "say hi to Baldi for me!" when leaving his store!

sometimes fandom makes me so tired ;-; i mentioned that it's upsetting that people who make merch will often sideline wyll and replace him with halsin and now it's devolved into white people and non-black people saying that wyll is boring and that halsin is actually a man of color (he is not in the game) and that it's actually racist to exclude him (halsin). it's not to say you can't like him or headcanon that he is a man of color but, headcanon ≠ canon! people just don't want wyll excluded/subbed out from merch people make because he literally is a main character whether you like him or not!

it's literally so exhausting being a black fan and seeing how people treat the sole black companion. he's an origin character but he gets treated like a secondary companion like jaheira, minthara, or minsc even by larian.

and for people who decided to block black people for bringing this up, i want you to think deeply about why defending a white fictional character is more important than listening to black fans voice their valid concerns

i really appreciate that techno made it a point to say that he’d still be creating content but it would be for himself. like of course he’ll be posting it for the community's enjoyment, but this isn’t about us. he’s genuinely just doing what he loves and during this time, i’m glad that he can still engage in what makes him happiest because he genuinely does deserve the world
