hello just a friendly reminder that making a high quality well-colored gifset can take hours of work and adjustment in adobe photoshop, and while gifsets are arguably the most prevalent post type on this website, that does not mean that they are easy to make.
downloading someone’s gifs and reposting them without their knowledge and without linking back to their post means that every note you gain on that post is appreciation for digital art that you are taking away from the original creator. it is much more respectful (and much easier) to reblog the original post
we’re all here to appreciate the same content and the same people, and gifmakers (and content creators in general) spend significant amounts of time making posts for people to share in that appreciation. reposting gifs that have already been posted by the person who made them does nothing to push that appreciation forward, and instead discourages gifmakers from making and posting their own gifs because they will not receive due credit for their work and time.
tl;dr: reposting someone else’s gifs is rude and discourages them from making more gifs. most of these people will be more than willing to give you pointers on how to make your own gifs, and if you don’t want to learn that then please reblog from the creator. this kind of etiquette is what keeps a fandom running on sheer enthusiasm, bc that’s the only thing gifmakers get out of making gifs. stealing gifs to repost on your own blog takes that away and contributes to a general downward trend in content creation on tumblr. pls don’t be a part of that problem bc it’s very sad and frustrating
