Moka Efti
The „Moka Efti“ was an an actual coffee shop in Berlin around the time Babylon Berlin is set. It was opened by the Greek Giánnis „Giovanni“ Eftimiades in 1926 as the first of two coffee shops he ran in the city. It contained various stores such as a hairdresser and places to play chess or billiards. The „Moka Efti“ was very popular additionally because it presumably featured the very first escalator in Berlin. There were served about 25.000 cups of coffee per day and the place turned into a giant dance hall at night. The NSDAP booked it for an exclusive party event in 1934. Both „Moka Efti“ and „Moka Efti am Tiergarten“ were destroyed in 1943 due to an air raid.
