Moka Efti

The „Moka Efti“ was an an actual coffee shop in Berlin around the time Babylon Berlin is set. It was opened by the Greek Giánnis „Giovanni“ Eftimiades in 1926 as the first of two coffee shops he ran in the city. It contained various stores such as a hairdresser and places to play chess or billiards. The „Moka Efti“ was very popular additionally because it presumably featured the very first escalator in Berlin. There were served about 25.000 cups of coffee per day and the place turned into a giant dance hall at night. The NSDAP booked it for an exclusive party event in 1934. Both „Moka Efti“ and „Moka Efti am Tiergarten“ were destroyed in 1943 due to an air raid.

Stresemann and Briand

Did You Know?

Gustav Stresemann was guiding the Weimar Republic through hard times and attempts of revolution. Germany joined the League of Nations while he was Reich Chancellor and later foreign minister. Together with his French counterpart Aristide Briand he made sure Germany and France got closer again after WW1. At the Locarno conference in 1925 at Lake Maggiore he would let a ship cruise as long as it would take until every German question was answered and things settled. (Stresemann was not able to speak French - I feel sorry for translator) 1926 he and Briand received the Nobel Price for Peace. They both supported the pan-european idea.

Fun fact: a „Stresemann“ is a special suit, originally created for the Locarno conference.

Send me historical aspects you find cool in Babylon Berlin, please! Are there things you want to know more about? You want to see a small post to it? You have a question? You did not understand something or you want to know if he/she really existed? If this/that was possible?

This would help me figure out how Babylon Berlin is seen by you related to it's history setting. So go and send me a message the "Ask a question" way - and if you want to - the reason you are interested!

And thank you guys so much. You were inspiration for me - and now a big help.

@BBALIVETOUR2012’s administrator decided to do a simple and wonderful project for BIGBANG & VIPs from all around the world.

If you want to join, follow the following guidelines:

• Write a letter at least 15 lines (IN ENGLISH) expressing your love for BIGBANG. 

• Take a video just saying “Thank you BIGBANG” in your idiom

OR

take a picture with the phrase “Thank You BIGBANG” in your idiom (english, japanese, french, italian, spanish..)

(Note: “@BBALIVETOUR2012” must also be in the video/photo)

• The letter must contain your full name, your country and city (and if you like your age and twitter).

• Send your favorite photos of BIGBANG. [Note: if you want]

• Send your letter and your photo to [email protected] and notify on twitter. “I sent my letter video/photo”.

• You should follow @BBALIVETOUR2012

All letters will be evaluated by me & admins from your country. The following points will be assessed: sincerity and sincerity. Yeah, right. I just will evaluate your sincerity. No matter if you do not know what to write, or very little has been written. You just have to be honest. Simple, right?

There will be a “Scrapbook” with all the letters and photos I receive and a video with all video/photos.  This “Scrapbook” will be sent to BIGBANG.

 You can sent your letter and video/photo until July/10.
