aurelia has scars—delicate, cruel things that lace around her throat like a collar, drag down the line of her spine, and curl around her wrists and ankles like old restraints. they’re faded now, but deep, lasting. the kind of marks that memory alone can't erase.

you’d never know it. not unless she let the illusion fall. she keeps them hidden, not out of shame, but because she doesn't want pity. she doesn’t want the gasps or the soft, sad eyes. her magic cloaks them in full, seamless glamours—like they were never there. even when she dances, bare skin glowing under firelight, nothing shows but beauty.

only when her guard slips—when she's afraid, or angry, or completely undone—do the scars flicker into sight. brief, ghost-like. and just as quickly, they’re gone again. most people don’t even notice.
