My Grandma Said: Traditions + Superstitions RECAP
Hey baddies! Last night’s conversations was THICC! So many great, rich takes that we all decided we need a part II.
If you missed our Clubhouse talks or just need a refresher, I gotchu:
Myself (Jamice) and my amazing co-host Carlee delve into the topic of spirituality and traditions amongst Black families. Each speaker shared their own personal experiences growing up and where they are currently in their spiritual journey. Some of the takeaways I loved were:
1. Spirituality doesn’t rear just one head: There are many facets to one’s spirituality and everyone practices differently. Whether it’s through meditation, prayer, yoga, reading your spiritual book of choice, etc. find what edifies your spirit.
2. It is you and you only who can decide what your faith looks like: A lot of us had similar experiences growing up in the church and kind of just doing as the family did. Now that we’re older, we have sought out answers for ourselves and have molded our own faith and spiritual practices.Setting boundaries and carving out time to be silent and tap into your spiritual being helps to strengthen your spiritual woman.
2. There is so much to learn and we are constantly changing: I loved how vulnerable, open, and encouraging everyone on the panel was. Sharing something as intimate as your faith can be scary, but every person on the panel was embraced and I think that is spiritual moment in itself. The ability to connect with one another on something that is so unique and personable to every one of us was amazing and it honestly gave me goosebumps.
Spirituality is something so simple yet goes so deep for all of us. It can look different despite believing the same things and often changes over time through personal growth and experiences. How do you practice your faith?
Pt II coming soon and don’t forget to join us this Thursday 01.14.2021 at 7p for “Clothes Minded” fashion talks, right on Clubhouse!
