Presenting the Boat Boys Zine!

a fanzine dedicated to celebrating our favourite obsessed duo, Etho and Joel. From their Relation-ship to their betrayals in the Life series, their mutual obsession in Hermitcraft and your own AUs that continue their stories, there is something for everyone !

Information and Disclaimers

This zine will contain shipping, please do not participate or engage if you do not enjoy this content. We ask that you do not share this zine with Content Creators.

Following the feedback of the Interest Check, we have decided that this zine will not contain any NSFW content and will instead be fully SFW, as well as accessible to all ages going 13+.

We are thinking of having a run-on, smaller zine that will be purely NSFW for those interested.

This zine is not for profit.

It is a digital only zine and has not been print-tested.

Timeline

Current phase : Zine formatting!

Interest Check — 10th sept to 24th sept 2025.

Moderator applications — 24th sept to 15th oct 2025.

Contributor applications — 24th oct to 17th nov 2025.

Applications results sent — 21st nov 2025.

Creation period begins — 8th dec 2025.

Final submissions — 9th Mar 2026.

Zine release ! — upcoming.

Hello there.

Quick question, if I want to become a contributer, in my case as an artist, do I need a portfolio or how are you choosing the artists/writers for the zine?

You will probably explain this when the application time is open, however it might be nice knowing such information in advance, so we don't have to rush to put something like this together.

— Some things we will be looking for

-> your art / writing of Joel and Etho, together or separate (not a necessity, if you haven't drawn or written either of them in a while that's okay).

-> the best of your recent art / writing or pieces that best represent your current art and writing style

-> if you chose digital merch artist, showing examples of what you've made before or are able to make can help.

— How to send them?

preferably a google drive or google doc! please do NOT link a tumblr post, an ao3 work, or any social media site. these links can break or get lost with handle changes and can lower the quality of your art.

specific word count + how many examples will be detailed on the contributor form, but gathering 3 to 5 of your best pieces as discussed above is a good starting point.

— A way to make the zine printable would be very cool.

There's a couple problems with making the zine print-proof; notably, it will be extra work not only for the formatting mods but also for our artists. Printing uses the CMYK colour profile while most online art programs use RGB, the colour profile for the zine. CMYK is less saturated and has less range than RGB which will lead to our artists having to submit two final pieces as well as perhaps deciding to redo their work to better fit this lower range.

Of course, you are still allowed to print the zine either way. The disclaimer was there to warn you that the colours will be different and might not look as good as on digital.

— Is there any way to separate work for the NSFW section so people -18 can still participate?

Because the creation period and coordination will be happening in our shared Discord server, we can’t fully guarantee that minors would be completely shielded from NSFW content or related discussions — even if we locked access behind to dedicated adult-only channels, we also can’t prevent minors from self-assigning those roles, and there’s always a risk that jokes or offhand conversations could slip into the general channels where minors might see it.

For everyone’s safety (and to avoid any moderation issues), we’ve decided that if we include NSFW work at all, we’ll need to make the entire zine 18+ only. Our priority is keeping contributors safe and making sure the process runs smoothly for everyone involved.

It's still very possible that we have a second run of this zine with different sections or even a NSFW specific zine, so look out for that in the future. It all comes down to how interested people are for it.

— Am I able to submit my NSFW piece anonymously while having my name on the SFW piece?

Yes, that can be done.

I am unsure if I even applied (memory problems), but I haven't received any emails for this zine in particular. So, I was wondering if I wasn't sent an email by accident?
