Patrons of the Druid’s Arms, in Stanton Drew, were surprised to see their local rebranded in August, only to find out the renaming was due to its starring role in a hit TV show.
“We were approached by the production company,” explains pub manager Carrianne Summers. “They had been scouting a suitable location in and around Bristol. They were looking for a pretty, typical country pub, they didn’t find what they were looking for in Bristol and so they came out our way and found the Druid’s. With our hanging baskets, traditional pub style, and the quiet village location we were what they wanted.”
Filming first took place on Tuesday 2nd August, and saw the Druid’s hanging pub sign replaced with one for The Rising Sun, the pub’s name in the forthcoming series. With the wet weather not creating the right atmosphere the film crew returned the following Tuesday to shoot the pub in glorious English sunshine.
“The Druid’s scene is a flashback for one of the character’s storylines and they wanted a sunny day,” said Carrianne. “We were happy to have the crew back again. It is quite exciting for us, and while a few customers were worried we might be changing our name the sign was only up for filming and our Druid’s Arms one is now back up where it belongs.”
