“where have you BEEN?” they both KNOW she knows. it’s been the latest rumor for a few weeks-- calder’s been seen slinking around casey’s again, always STUMBLING out to head back home. he would climb back into bed with karen, act like nothing was wrong, but today was DIFFERENT. they got back from their hunt, but she didn’t go to sleep when he didn’t come home. she WAITED. he was still high when he walked in, eyes faintly yellow and lips so dry it almost hurt just to LOOK at. was THIS really better than her? was THIS what was taking him away from her? it was so UNFAIR. “i’ve been waiting for HOURS.”

it’s been a long day; they’ve been in the woods at least a week, and karen knew they both not only smelled awful, but felt awful. it’s been harsh and cold, more so than usual, but calder never failed to fix it. he’d set up a nice spot for them and got a fire going for the first time in nights, but even after it dies, karen’s comfortable just to have him wrap his arms around her. god, she wouldn’t trade this for the world, even when he shivers with the cold.         “shh, i’m here.”

fun fact i made this hc bc i was drinking directly out of the carton like a savage and my brother called me gross and i just ‘you know who else is gross?? adrian’

he’s only ever known the other kid as his drug dealer, which he’s always found IRONIC given his age. calder was 15, and so was micheal, so why was calder DEALING? (he’d later learn it was his brother, of course). still, there he was for another deal, money in hand. he’d had to scrounge it up, knowing from EXPERIENCE that casey took every shortage out on his younger brother, and mikey couldn’t STAND the thought that he was the reason calder showed up with BRUISES last week. 

“so why do you even stay with him?” it’s a quiet question, one he’s heard plenty himself. he and kyle weren’t exactly HEALTHY, and it was obvious. but calder wasn’t in a RELATIONSHIP, he had a shitty older brother. “get yourself emancipated. get him busted for drugs. SOMETHING. he ain’t treatin’ you right, calder. he’s fuckin’ your life up.”
