Sunny days in BC! #bcelxn17 #bcelxn2017 #bcpoli #bcndpbcgreencoalition (at Legislative Assembly of British Columbia)
Look at this…. crazy times.
So Cortenay-Comox was the riding to watch this year. When the general voting counts ended on May 9 there was a 9 vote difference between the BC Liberals and the NDP. Now there’s 148 votes in favour of the NDP after all the absentee ballots have been counted.
This is a big deal, because the BC Liberals needed 44 seats to be a majority government (again, ongoing since 1993). With this total, they’ve won only 43.
NDP has 41 seats and the Green Party holds 3 (good for them! They were hoping for at least 2 seats). I am really, really interested to see where this bizzar balance of power will take the government for the next 5 years.
It really now looks like we have, for the first time, something called a “hung parliament” where no one party really holds the majority of power.
Look at that difference in votes! 40.36% to 40.28% of the total. Less that 1% of total views between the two parties. Just… wow
Election results
Well currently the results are: 43 Liberal 41 NDP 3 Green Final count is May 21-24 once the absentee ballots finish coming in, and there are some riding where there is an automatic recount as they are sooooo close (one had a difference of 9 votes. 9 votes!). I'm hoping a lot of those absentees went NDP and fix this, lol. It was flipping back and forth so much last night between NDP and Liberals it was crazy. For a long while it looked like it was going to be 42/42/3 for the seats. I don't think a single independent made it in this time (unless you count Green because I think they need 4 or 5 seats to technically be counted as a "real" party, but they do have people running in almost every riding and are making some headway every election). This *almost* mirrors the collaps of the Canadian Conservative party, they ruled for ages, then had a minority then went out fast and furious last year. I doubt the same will happen here, but maybe the NDP will pull through next time (or maybe even this time?) I don't know. Stupid fact: the BC Liberals are more closely aligned in values to the Canadian Conservative Party than the Canadian Liberals. It's dumb, we do have a Conservative party with like, no candidates because why bother when BC Libs are already conservative in values? But whatever. It is how it is. It's just confusing to like, the rest of Canada when they're like "Why??? Does BC vote Liberal every Provincial election??? But Conservative every Federal???? What do these people want????"

Democracy doesn't work if you don't vote! Do your civic duty from now until 8pm #britishcolumbia! Dear Entrepreneurs, Growing a business, creating economic value, and jobs are all important. So is out civic duty to figure out who to vote for, and then to get out and vote. On Tuesday, May 9, please vote. Don't know where? Look here: https://wtvelectionsbc.azurewebsites.net ps. Thanks to The Comox Valley Record for this bit of text. Scary, that less than 25% of the voting-age population could decide who forms our provincial government for the next four years. --- #BCelxn2017 #bcvotes
