When I was in high school I had a playwriting teacher who was obsessed with Shakespeare. This is not particularly unusual. What is more unusual is that I often feel that the only thing I learned in high school is that Shakespeare loved to make up words (not least of which was 'eyeball.' You're welcome.), and that Ian, the playwright, desperately believed that Shakespeare would have loved the word 'bling.'
I'm hoping that I'll have success in filling my students' brains with more than silly anecdotes about Shakespeare's preference for slang when I start my first year as a middle school teacher with the Baltimore City School District.
With just 7 weeks until I move (back) across the country from San Francisco, and a few short months until I'm actually in front of a classroom, I'm looking forward to sharing with you the trials and tribulations of relocation, teacher-boot-camp, and urban education.
