“Oh... that’s so sweet, but I’m actually not looking for a sidekick. Plus Bat .... Cat.... they don’t really go together do they? It’s almost as ridiculous as a cat and a spider.”
@bctwmn
Kara wasn’t sure how she had drawn the short straw on this. Well, the figurative short straw. In the literal sense, she had just been the last one to call dibs on a story to write about because no one else wanted to write about Gotham’s infamous socialite and Kara hadn’t exactly been paying that much attention when assignments were being handed out because she was too busy listening to someone down in HR complaining about how James was ruining the company and so on and so forth. So she had ended up with this interview.
It was fine. It was good. Kara had a good handle on this. She had dealt with Cat Grant, who was infamously difficult to work for and often made her employees cry, for several years and made it out alive. She could do this. One tiny little interview, a few soundbites, and then she’d be done. Go back to the office, type up a little puff piece about Kate Kane, then done.
Except for the fact that Kara wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. Had she actually agreed to the interview? Was Kara about to barge in on her? would she laugh Kara out of the room?
From what she had seen, Ms. Kane was intimidating to say the least. And Kara was starting to worry that she was the worst person to send to do this because sweet and accommodating Kara Danvers wasn’t exactly a good choice for this. She had gone with a more professional look today, at least, opting for a pale blue blouse and black pants and low heeled boots.
The restaurant, thankfully, wasn’t too busy and it was easy to find her target. “Ms. Kane?” she asked as she stepped over to her and offered her her hand. “Kara Danvers, reporter from CatCo.”

what if kate graduated West point?
for kate to remain in west point, one of two things would have had to happen - she either a) lied about being gay or b) was better at hiding her relationship with sophie from the other cadets. ( or secret option c where dadt was repealed much earlier ). going with b sounds more ic for kate, she’d never lie about her sexuality, thus:
kate would have passed in the 99th percentile of her class and then follow in her mothers footsteps in military intelligence and infantry. she’d have likely made corporal by the time she would have become batwoman in the regular timeline.

what if gabi never died
brussels, june 1st 1997. that’s the day her life would have changed forever. it was her twelfth birthday when her mother was killed, the path that lead her to becoming batwoman. but she always had wondered what could have been.
with her mother still around, the kane’s would have stayed in berlin until the next promotion took the family elsewhere or they return to gotham. she’d have perused entering the military as before and still get expelled; though it wouldn’t have the same downwards spiral into alcoholism, kate would have had both her mom and sister to pick her back up again.
she’d have completed her college degrees instead of dropping out in favour of being a layabout. she just knows her mother would have convinced her it’s worth completing, no doubt about it, hell even if she did end up dropping out still gabi would have supported her choice. honour and integrity.
of course, she wouldn’t be batwoman that much is certain. there would be no drive for revenge against the men who executed her mother, though she’d still have a strong sense for justice and doing the right thing -- support groups for the young lgbt in gotham, setting up the kane foundation to sponsor gotham pride, the ultimate lgbt+ activist.

@bctwmn / starter call.
“I was kind of expecting another bat to show up,” he commented as he looked towards her, one eyebrow raised. That always seemed to happen to him whenever he was in Gotham, so he’s just come to expect it at this point. “But now that you’ve made sure it’s just me, I think we’re all good. I can take it from here,” he said with two hands raised.

★★ ~ BAT-WO-MAN! BAT-WO-MAN! BAT-WO-MAN!! ~ ★★
the thundering applause from the crowd, the spot lights shining down on her god she loved this. sure it was all a big dramatised show, with moves practised over and over to avoid really hurting each other .. but she fucking loved this job.
and this moment in particular was a turning point for her character. for the longest time her role was being the jobber, the one supposed to make the new talent look incredible, who’d be seen ‘training’ the others in training montages. but tonight ... after weeks of build up, her protege flame bird being ‘hospitalised’ by them, she was finally facing off against knife.
she was told to make it last at least ten minuets, lose for the first half and have a major come back. easy. she and tahani had been working on this play for ages, they wanted to blow away the audience with this title match. seven minuets passed, time for the big come back.
batwoman picked herself up, wiped the fake blood from her lip and after pushing back her hair, she charged for knife with a clothesline to knock her opponent down, the crowd roared for the hero, chanting her name over and over. she was living for this, so damn fun. after a few moments of inflating her ego, attention returned to knife. a brief scuffle playing to the crowd, batwoman grabbed knife into a cobra clutch.
“ready?” she mouthed, it was time for the the finisher. batwoman switched up into a full nelson grip and slammed knife onto the mat. she pinned knife down for the count and ...
AND BATWOMAN HAS DONE IT. THE WINNER OF GOTHAM-MANIA XXV!
