she wonders if kate knows the weight of precisely what she means when she asks for something so silly. but with a thousand others she would consider a massage kind of an innuendo.
it’s very ironic the safety she feels with the person she loves most and sleeps with is being able to be taken innocently.
“it’s not sexy. but if you think it’s sexy—“ she whines a little, unintentional, captivated by that touch, “—i’ll allow it.”
she’s happiest here, like this, held and safe and remembered, encapsulated by the promise of knowing kate’s stronger than selina’s shadows. brighter, too.
she tugs her shirt off easily, a kind of uncaring, a kind of secure she seldom is.
she may be no trained masseuse but she knows muscle relaxation well, countless nights of tending to aches and pains after falls, fights, or even sleeping weird had taught her well enough.
she took a moment, of course, to admire the structure of Selina's back muscles before getting to the task at hand. well, after a few kisses placed between her shoulder blades. how could she possibly resist?
"do you think I would be sexy with a few greys? I'm sure I'm due some soon."
i literally have no idea if Kate is lying in this new issue and she's actually going out and murdering criminals from a psychotic break or if the theory of the one in the bat suit is Beth and idk how to feel abt either outcome
selina’s nose crinkles up. and kate might assume she’s about to ridicule her for that corny set of sentences— but she knows selina, and she would never. if anything, she savors it.
“i would neeeeeeeever be californian,” the cat pauses, and gives the bat a squeeze like some security squeaky toy, “don’t bring up how much i say like. it’s a vocal tic from pretending to be a fucking bimbo all the time.”
she presses her good ear to the beat of kate’s heart. it might sound obsessive, but she knows the steady drum with the comfort of a metronome. she’s heard it slamming, furious, in the throes of passion, and she hears it now, calm, linear. a constant reminder. nothing has ever felt so perfect. and it can’t be any other way. the love she feels is an unconditional thing, and though she’d let it slip easily, she doesn’t want to scare kate.
hell, it’s the one place she doesn’t want to presume. she’s not exactly the stray you bring home to mom and dad. even if that doesn’t exactly apply here.
“only way it could be more perfect is if you’d give me a back massage to ease my incredibly choking anxiety. —pleeeeeeeeeeease.”
eyelashes bat. it’s not even a suggestive statement, a thing kate’s well-aware of. sometimes she just needs to feel real, loose, loved. to be touched softly is her greatest luxury.
as if by instinct, Kate brought her hand to the back of Selina's head and began slowly combing her fingers through those deep brown locks, the moment her head met with her chest. those moments were her favourite. a shallow, content sigh left her chest as her digits looped and curled Selina's hair.
she chuckled softly upon the request, as if she had to turn on the puppy eyes to get Kate to do anything like that for her.
" okaaaaay, seen as you've been soooo traumatised by this sexy grey streak. "

that kiss. that kiss seals everything, envelopes it. it makes life worth living in its small doses. the moments that are normal and settled, where the danger of herself doesn’t immediately encroach on that which she loves best. here in kate’s arms as she breathes against that mouth she is safe.
her fingers curl into red hair with an easy comfort, holds the shape of the other’s crimson locks in a careful, memorable promise. she has never been anything but passionate.
“yeah,” she leans so fully against kate it’s easy, knowing the weight supports, and she mopes, “it’s fine. it only clipped me. still.”
and that doesn’t matter. you press a kiss to her nose, something like a promise. a response to the way she kisses your forehead, a sacred kind of love like a child loves. without boundary or concern.
“you make my life worth it. i’m just bitching. —that’s a rare statement for me, but it means a lot coming from you. i try to keep my claws to myself. and i try to let you know what you mean to me any chance i get. especially now, when i’m crazy and mad about grey hair.”
she's in love. she's so in love with her and it was so clear to see. though the actual words themselves have not been exchanged. but it was not necessary, she knows Selina loves her. besides, Kate wanted the moment to be right - part of her was concerned about saying it too soon, despite the length the two have been an item.
the body language and physical touch, it's all Kate needed from her. she loves her so god damn much. she did not want to scare her away with a declaration if she wasn't ready for it. but she knows. she knows.
" bitching about grey hairs, worried over our kids. god, makes our lives sound almost normal. maybe in a different life we could have been bougie california lesbians. but I wouldn't change who we are in this moment for the world. "
she leans up. uncaring, the cat steals a kiss, warmly given and ferociously bestowed at once. a thumb strokes along that jaw as though cataloguing its shape in memory. chocolate brown softens to something teddy-bear sweet. unguarded.
“i’ve got a baby face. curse and a blessing,” she’s quiet, even, words spoken like they’re sacred, meant to be unheard by any ears save kate’s. she holds her sacred, tilted in, arms braced against the bat’s chest as though she could teeter her backwards, “i just hate it. i hate it i hate it i hate it.”
it agitates her. it feels like something uncontrollable, and she turns inward to kate to bury her face against a shoulder. she digs into it, finds comfort there, presses easily into the kneading of the bat’s thumbs.
“life. being alive. being alive is stressful for me. holly has the flu. and she’s literally fine. but i’m me. i got shot by a cop two weeks ago when i was just taking home groceries. i don’t fucking sleep.”
and yet, if kate keeps up those consistent touches, she thinks she’ll fall asleep right here.
lips pursed, though she expected an answer like that, it still didn't make it easy to listen to. and she was absolutely pissed about that damn cop. though that could be said for any gcpd officer.
" i get you, " she spoke in between gentle smooches upon Selina's forehead. " i don't think I've slept a full night since I was twelve. " not when every time she would close her eyes, the flash of her mothers corpse and the feeling of grey matter sliding down her cheek would haunt her. she was grateful Lucille would stay up with her some nights - she made everything easier.
" it may be stressful for you but, " she paused for a moment to lift Selina's head up a touch and looked directly into her eyes as she continued, " i'm happy you're alive. with me. you make being alive less stressful for me. " punctuated with a kiss. such a romantic.
"Hey, mom." Lucille's full of smiles as she marches into Kate's bedroom, birthday cake with candles lit and all held with care in her hands. "Morning! Happy birthday! You wanna blow your candles now or later with Selina and Holly?" @luscinai
she was already awake, perhaps even hadn't gone to sleep yet. a bat's duty never stops after all, even on the eve of ones birthday. although with the date came extra baggage for Kate, memories that will always sting - but the presence of her daughter, her sweet baby bird, has made every anniversary far, far easier to make it through.
" Morning, princess. " she had started to pull her hair up into a bun in prep to blow the candles out before the question was posed, " hmm, no - think I'll do it now seen as you've gone through the effort, besides I'm sure 'Lina and Hol have something prepared when we go see them. "
after extinguishing the flames, Kate pressed a little kiss against her daughters cheek. " Thank you, bubeleh. love you. "
Andi seizes her Bat-mom in a tight hug, this is quickly followed by Steph getting Kate from the other side as the two girls sandwich the redhead between them. "Happy birthday!" The girls would use the hugs as a means of slipping a $200 gift card and reservations for two at a fancy restaurant into Kate's pocket. @txciturnitxs
They think they're so slick. it was hard to sneak one past her, Kate could tell in an instant what the two were doing but seen as they were doing something nice, she hooked an arm around each of them to reciprocate the embrace and a kiss atop their heads.
