Her father always worked on Sunday. 

She didn’t really know why, at least, not currently (She’d learn when she was older). But he’d done it since she was an infant, and it wasn’t odd for him to be sipping on a morning coffee as she nibbled at some bacon and eggs during the early breakfast hours. 

Nell was an early riser, so it was often the two of them. He’d make the eggs, bacon and the coffee, and they’d quietly sit together. 

“.. Hey Dad?”

“Hm?” 

“At school on Friday, in gym class, they had this lady come in that was all about like, positivity and stuff, and she gave us this weird homework thing” 

Her father raised his greying brow. 

“She told us to ask our parents what they love about us, and write it down” Nell took another bite of her eggs. 

“Well, isn’t that invasive” He retorted, another sip of his coffee obscuring his face. 

“I tried to ask mom, but she just wouldn’t answer. She was too busy with Lindsey’s college stuff” 

“It is very important that your mother complete those documents so that Lindsey can start her post-grad studies” 

Nell made a face, but tried to continue

“So, I uh, wanted to ask you? What do you love about me?” 

The pause between them was almost uncomfortable. 

“I am your father, therefore I love you. That’s my job. Why do you need something as arbitrary as a list of sub-categories?” He carefully answered “You are my daughter, my flesh and blood, therefore I love you - and because I am your father, you love me. If that woman comes back around, just make something up. Your school shouldn’t be encouraging that sort of thing anyway.” 

    She wasn’t sure how to respond to that, but nodded and took a quiet bite of her bacon. 

    Her father proceeded to finish his coffee, rinse the cup and put it in the dishwasher “Make sure you run this for your mother, hm? It’s full.” 

    “Once I’m done” She answered, finishing up her eggs - now there was just bacon left. 

    Her father grabbed his suitcase and suit-jacket, and looked back at her “It's the 3rd Sunday, so we’re eating out tonight. It’s your mothers turn” 

    “Let’s hope she doesn’t choose Olive Garden again” Nell commented “... Dad?” 

    He had just opened the door. “Yes?” 

    “.. Love you” 

    He gave her a smile- thought it was a tad stiff “And I love you, AnnaBella” 

    And the shut door echoed into the kitchen, leaving the teen all alone.
