Was it an OXYMORON to say she was CYNICAL but HOPEFUL? She’d never actually seen what LOVE looked like. She’d observed DRUNKEN TEENAGERS slobber over each other while plying themselves with champagne worth MORE MONEY than every other ounce of alcohol they’d EVER drink -- COMBINED. (Champagne bought for by PRETENDING to be Sera’s friend.) And she had seen what she BELIEVED to be happiness in Benjamin’s eyes when he had said those two FAITHFUL WORDS to Delilah. But evidently that had proved to be something more PERVERSE. (The kind of SICK SATISFACTION she’d seen in those TEENAGE EYES growing up...) And between parents that existed on a RESOURCE POOL. And a husband that existed on a MERGER. And no TIME for tv (according to father). She didn’t actually KNOW what love looked like. But she had HOPE that it existed. Because if not in the name of LOVE, the why and how THE FUCK did she THINK, FEEL & LOOK at HELENA the way she had grown to over the years?
