The sound of a keyboard clicking into the wee hours of the night is what alerted him. Levi was no fool, he always noticed when you would overwork yourself, staying up late into the night. He always had difficulties falling asleep, especially when you weren’t next to him.
He could just faintly hear the clicking through the wall next to him, your own home office if you will. You spent many late nights there during school, and even to finish the work for your internship.
You were the hardest working person Levi knew, and right now, you were getting on his nerves. Not because he doing work was annoying, he actually quite admired that you put as much effort into everything that you did.
It was the fact that it was your birthday and you couldn’t take time to yourself to relax. Levi had spent the evening making your favorite dinner, playing your favorite music through a speaker in the kitchen, and even wearing the apron you had gotten him for his birthday last year.
When you got home, he forced you to sit down and eat, even going as far as to put all your things away for you, and shutting them in your office. The two of you had enjoyed his dinner, and Levi listened to you talk about your day without a single complaint, glad that your classes didn’t ruin your day.
But you, being you, needed to finish up that last bit of work. You had told Levi after watching your favorite show that you were going to get a shower in the bathroom across the hall from your room, as there wasn’t one attached to your bedroom.
He simply had agreed, promising to meet you in bed so you could cuddle before falling asleep. He had even heard the shower turn on at some point, but drifted in and out enough to not realize it flicked off only after a couple of minutes.
And that’s when he woke, hearing the soft tapping on the keyboard, and a sigh falls from his mouth as he sits up, rubbing at his eyes. Levi stands slowly, letting his joints point as he rises, rolling his neck as he glances at the time on your nightstand, only for it to read 12:38 a.m.
He makes his way down the hallway to your office door, and gently opens it, his eyes adjusting to the single lamp you had turned on resting on your desk. Your head snaps quickly to the door, guilt and panic written all over your features as you realize you’ve been caught.
A pout settles on your lips as Levi makes his way over to you, a soft but firm scowl plastered on his angled jaw. You open your mouth to defend yourself, but Levi beats you to it, a finger of his resting on your parted lips.
“Come to bed,” he whispers lowly, his finger moving from your lips to tenderly caress your jaw. “You’ve had a long day, and you deserve some cuddles, not more work.”
“But Levi, I’m almost done-” you start, but Levi’s gaze hardens, and you swallow as you glance down at your laptop. Your hand comes up to close the screen, and Levi’s hand drops as you stand up in the close space.
He tugs you to his chest in one move, burying his face into your neck as his arms tangled around you. Levi whispers under his breath, “C’mon love, you should be getting rest on your birthday.”
At that, he places a soft kiss onto your shoulder, pulling back enough to see the half-lidded look on your face, then he presses another kiss to your cheek. Then your nose. Then finally, your lips.
“C’mon birthday girl, let’s go give you some cuddles.”
