Explosions in the Sky - ‘Be Comfortable, Creature’

Explosions in the Sky, “Be Comfortable, Creature”
So, today I went to do some work on my assignment, as I said I would. I got a bunch more sources and annotated them. Got three more, took me three and a half hours. I think I may need more, or at least some information on the author--life information and the such--of the piece I’ve chosen to evaluate, which I can get easily from wikipedia. It’s Ernest Hemingway, I’m sure his wikipedia is huge. I don’t need to read his 300 page biography (if one exists). I guess I kind of just need to write the thing now. Thank God it’s due Tuesday, as opposed to Monday, when it was originally due. After I finished doing the sources thing today, I decided to go for a walk. So did others. Some people were doing the protest march thing today. So, I watched them for a bit. Not gonna lie, it wasn’t too impressive. It pains me to say that. The thing is, I think I know what they were marching for due to it being in the media a lot recently, but if I didn’t know that I’d have no idea what they were marching for just from watching them. Like, they just kept chanting “What do we want? Recognition! When do we want it? Now!” from that chant alone, I can’t work out what they’re protesting for, well, other than recognition. Recognition for what? What do you want people to recognise? Their banners did not help. They honestly just repeated the chants. RECOGNITION, PEOPLE! See, if people aren’t able to figure out what you are protesting for / against just by watching you, it probably isn’t gonna attract much help. Also, the turn out wasn’t great unfortunately. I don’t think there were any more than 25 people marching--which kind of sucks. I don’t know. That’s just me. If I’m unclear on what you are marching for, you obviously aren’t doing a very good job. It just wasn’t convincing, despite the fact that I think I know what it was about. Anyway, enough about depressing protest marches--Explosions in the Sky. You know when you see a CD, and it just looks so awesome and you don’t care what kind of music it is, you just know you need it. Yeah, I saw this CD in the shop today, again, bargain bin shopper--it was twelve dollars. The cover is really pretty. It’s a house I’d love to live in. Turning it around, I really like the song names. Be Comfortable, Creature and Human Qualities I feel both play off of the ideas of being human, especially the whole “creature comforts” thing. What with the cover being a house, overtaken by nature--it’s got vines growing all over it, the post box is overflowing, the umbrella bin looks like it hasn’t been touched in years--it’s kind of a contrast, but for me, that’s a place I’d be comfortable in, so the contrast is interesting. Also, instead of a lyric/artwork booklet (seeming as it’s instrumental) there is cute little postcard (from 1952?), with the tracklisting on one side and the liner notes on the other. It’s a cool little thing, I thought. I also really like the album title, “Take Care, Take Care, Take Care”. It’s kind of quaint, especially taking in to account the song names, and artwork. It’s a quaint little thing really. The video for this song is hella cute. I totally teared up when the creature threw the picture in the fire, like, noooooo. Even though we all know how those situations end up, it’s never not sad.
