September 5th is...
Be Late For Something Day - The observance urges us to ditch the clock for the day. Not only that but to forgive those who don’t live by the clock. Another focus of the day takes a look at missed opportunities. It’s never really too late to get started on them.
Cheese Pizza Day - “Hold the toppings!” That’s right, cheese is all you need when celebrating this pizza holiday. Whether the pie is homemade or ordered in, make it cheese only. Add a variety of cheeses to your pie to celebrate.
International Day Of Charity - The UN recognizes that volunteering and philanthropic work provides social bonding while creating resilient societies. Giving to those in need helps to alleviate the worst effect of humanitarian crises. The basic necessities of food, clothing, and shelter are provided when others give. These donations also spread a message of humanity to the underprivileged and those surrounded by conflict.
Pet Rock Day - Pet Rock is a collectible toy that was created by Gary Dahl, an advertising executive. These toys are created using smooth stones from Rosarito Beach in Mexico. The stones were marketed like live pets. The fad lasted for around six months, coming to a conclusion after a small increase in sales during the 1975 festive season. Even though lower sales caused the toy to be discounted in February of 1976, Dahl still managed to sell more than one-million Pet Rocks, which cost $4 at the time, meaning he became a millionaire.
World Samosa Day - Samosas are a delightfully fried dish filled with onions, peas, potatoes, cheese, beef or lamb, or any of a myriad of other fillings. Samosas find their origins somewhere in the Middle East, and historians estimate that this was at some time prior to the 10th century. At some point a few hundred years later, during the 13th or 14th century they were brought by traders to India, where it quickly became an incredibly popular food.
