Truth be told, I don't particularly like how common it is to put down either Goku or Vegeta in order to prop the other up. This seems to crop up the most when it comes to talking about them as dads.
Want to argue that Vegeta is a good father? Just bash Goku and claim he’s a deadbeat who abandons his kids and is tone deaf to what they want! He stayed dead for years just to avoid them and train after all!
Want to argue that Goku is a good father? Well better latch onto how shitty Vegeta was initially and act like he still behaves that way! He's a selfish douche who didn't care about his kid's safety and refuses all forms of affection!
Look, I think the truth of the matter is that neither of them are perfect dads by any stretch, but they either tried their best despite circumstances and stayed continuously supportive and loving (Goku) or went through considerable character development and now love and protect their family (Vegeta). They're both characters with flaws that manifest in their parenting, but that doesn't make them bad. Their genetics are quite literally working against what humans would call good paternal instincts so honestly I think we should give them both big kudos.
Anyway, this is where I'd say "don't pit two kings against each other" but seeing them fight is cool so uh... "don't pit two kings against each other in this way specifically"
