seira didn’t shop often, things were simply too expensive and being a barista doesn’t exactly make you rich. seira loved shopping, with her whole heart, but the money were not in her pocket. majority of seira’s money went to food and rent, a small part of it to other stuff and some to save. seira had saved up money, and upon hearing of the event and the discounts, she figured she could use some of the money she had.
she finds herself with fellow friend sua, a smile sitting on her lips. “it seems like they’re going around interviewing people about love and such” seira says as she looks around, seira herself had never even had a crush before (yes she had, she just didn’t know it was a crush) so she didn’t know much about that. “i’m here for the discounts though” she adds, “wanna go around and look? i’m so excited with all these discounts” and the smile on her lips grow.
everyone knew that jaesung loved makeup. it was apart of his job and he wore it any chance he could when it was permitted. he loved a good discount even more though which was why he was alongside ria in the makeup isle. seeing all the different products that they put discounts on had him itching to get all he can.
he glances over at ria, a smile on his lips. "i can't believe that all of this is such low prices. i feel like i'm gonna end up buying too much." a laugh leaves him instantly. he at least found ones that he needs since he's been running low as well as a few bits of makeup that just caught his eye.
"anything get your attention? i know there's too many choices around." he's curious on what's going on through her mind since he knows that this is something they both love getting to talk about. makes him enjoy being close to her since not everyone enjoys makeup talk.
in which yulhee is unashamed and craving sweets, as per usual.
a nemo's dream starter for @beyuwol !
while yulhee doesn’t necessarily need the discounts, she certainly appreciates them. and so do her parents, of course - they’d be the first to say they don’t need to be paying for full priced skirts after everything they’ve already spent on their daughter over the years. not that she minds them much, as made clear by the several shopping bags she drags out of yet another hongdae store.
she happily struts down the street humming the latest prizm release when a familiar - and rather unique - face catches her attention from across the street. she’s reminded of the violin sounds, the glamorous stages on next gen and of her friends mentioning him, and it’s frankly enough for her. whether or not he knows who she is, she’s already decided he’ll be the one to squish her boredom for the day.
“yah, han yuwol!” she at least has the decency not to shout out his name too loudly, assuming that at least someone in the crowd would recognize the name and match it with his face. she’s right in front of him by now, big smile on her face as she fumbles with her many bags. “kim yulhee. we met before, i think it was at band practice... or at oppa’s birthday party... one of those!”, she moves right along, nonchalantly. “are you here to enjoy the discounts too? isn’t it so nice? what did you get? o~oh, did you get a present for someone special, perhaps? i hear there’s camera people interviewing everyone about their significant others~”
“ah, hey, if you’re not busy, wanna join me for a cup of coffee? and ice cream. mainly ice cream.” she winks up at him. “you wouldn’t let this noona get ice cream alone, now would you~?”
sua isn't really paying all that much attention to her surroundings, too focused on reading the board of what the vendor has to offer, frowning in consideration. it doesn't take her long to make a decision, going to step up and right into line-- but she sidesteps, almost knocking into another person with her suddenn hurry to get in line.
"i'm so sorry," sua rushes out, immediately darting back, eyes settling on their face before actual recognition settles. and once it does, sua stares, unblinking. because what are the chances of her running into xiaoli. it feels silly, almost. like she's being pranked. all this talk about relationships and love in the area, and sua's faced with her own failed relationship of sorts. it feels cosmic, like someone is laughing at her somewhere in the universe.
"um." sua blinks back into focus, a strained smile on her face-- awkwardly scratching at her cheek as she shifts in her spot. "hi." she says, because her mind blanks and what the hell is she supposed to say? she hasn't seen him in quite a while, and she knows the ending hadn't been great. it never is, when sua has to have the last word and she's always seething with something. "you were getting in line too?" she asks, adjusting the strap of her bag over her shoulder as she glances around them. "what a. uh. small world, huh."
nora had known this moment would come, a brief tap upon bare shoulders as her attention is whisked away from the array of locally curated clothing, camera lens shoved dangerously close to her nose as she spins in place. they're already filming ( of course they are ), red light flashing unassumingly as a host pulls her off to the side, questionnaire at the ready. there's no use in fighting, nora internal figures despite the annoyance bubbling beneath the easy grin she sports, camera ready the moment she's within frame.
nemos dream, in and of itself, is foreign atop cherry lips, noras preexisting knowledge of the show being next to nothing, but she feels no shame in that being her reality— busy bee as she was, what shame was there to truly feel?
stood before the camera as questioning begins, the first question is easy enough. "what do you consider to be dating?"
"exclusivity." the words leave nora with little thought, tone matter of fact in contrast to the rather nonchalant expression she wears. "dating another means to be committed to another, singularly and wholly." there's little room for argument, noras words strong as she continues, a brief furrow of the brows accompanying her words. "hypothetically speaking, if you were the only person i was giving special affection to, i would expect the same— special, singular treatment unless otherwise discussed."
“interesting . . . so, in that vein, do you think it’s possible to have physical affection before you date someone?”
eyes narrowing, nora waits a beat before offering an answer, her smile no less inviting despite the guard she puts forth. "would it be scandalous for me to say yes?" with the quirk of her brow, a singular corner of her lips raising in questioned amusement, she continues. "physical attraction has always been just as important as emotional attraction to me, maybe even more so. if i'm being honest, most of my flings, no matter how brief, started because i found the other person to be physically attractive." in noras mind, this was a completely sound way to think
eyes narrowing, nora waits a beat before offering an answer, her smile no less inviting despite the guard she puts forth. "would it be scandalous for me to say yes?" with the quirk of her brow, a singular corner of her lips raising in questioned amusement, she continues. "physical attraction has always been just as important as emotional attraction to me un term of real dating, maybe even more so. if i'm being honest, most of my interest in others, no matter how brief, started because i found the other person to be physically attractive." in noras mind, this was a completely sound way to think. sure, certain flings hadn't been as pretty on the inside as they as been on the outside, but that was something she'd been prepared for, her own person being a prime example. "it's a disservice not to like the exterior alongside the interior."
"insightful! all that being said . . . how would you ask someone that you’re seeing to be your boyfriend or girlfriend?”
this question, for once, throws nora for a loop— relationships have never been her forte, seriousness and substance thrown out the window in favor of easy thrills and flings alike. she's been hurt one too many times to trust another with her heart fully, preferring to keep secrets where they lay in favor of brief overviews with little consequence. so, she figures answering with vague honesty won't hurt. "i would simply ask."
short and sweet, lips curling into a hollow grin. "if the other person truly felt like the one, why beat around the bush?"
in which yulhee makes the interviewer regret ever getting out of bed that day.
“how would you ask someone that you’re seeing to be your boyfriend?”
she’s still fixing her hair when the camera turns on and the nemo’s dream staff member blurts out the question. yulhee blinks with the sudden start, but it only takes a moment before her heart is overtaken by emotion. always a romantic, her eyes well up as the memories of the only serious relationship she’s had flood in, and she gives her head a little shake to disguise it.
“ehh, well, with a big showcase, of course!”, she states as if it’s the most obvious thing in the world, both hands moving around in big gestures. “last time i was asked, it was big. huuuuuge! it involved a treasure hunt and everything. it was the most romantic thing in the world!”
“woah, a treasure hunt, really? that person must have put so much effort into it!”
there’s a hint of loneliness somewhere deep within her as she’s reminded of her ex, though she can easily switch the angle of the comment away from her personal experiences. “well, of course! that’s what you’re supposed to do, isn’t it? go above and beyond for the person you’re choosing to be in a relationship with?” yulhee stomps and pouts. she is genuinely upset at the thought of hypothetical people not making a big show out of it, and she gets carried away with it too. “a~ah, i hate it when people don’t take this stuff seriously. i mean, are you honestly even thinking about it properly if you can’t surprise your significant other with a thoughtful gift or a trip to a special location? you can’t just ask people out of nowhere! it can’t be as easy as asking what the weather is going to be like over the weekend!”
she is barely able to hold herself back from yanking the microphone out of the interviewer’s hand. the man probably had more questions to ask, but yulhee doesn’t give him a chance to intervene; she goes on for a while, passionately citing all the terrible proposals she’s read about in her novels, until the staff team decides to cut their losses and bow as they turn on their heels.
“h-hey, wait up! you can’t just leave me here, i was in the middle of my story!”, she dashes after them. “hey, hey! am i going to be in the next episode at least? yah!”
"pardon me! would you mind answering a few questions for nemo's dream?"
the voice stops sana in her tracks, her head turning left to look at the speaker, her eyes darting unsubtly around to confirm he's really talking to her. she tilts her head, taking just a moment to decide what to do.
she doesn't recognize the name beyond a vague familiarity, like someone she follows online is a fan of it, maybe. she may have been seeing the name plastered around here, too -- they must be sponsored by the event or something? who knows.
whatever. it's not like she's heard anything bad or weird about the show, and it could be fun. besides, the guy's got himself a nice shady spot here; it's nice to get a respite from the sun.
"sure!" she chirps as she steps over, a jaunt in her step and her hair swinging with the motion. "i'm izumi sana. if you could include my socials in the video, that'd be great!"
"of course!" the boy's energy, at least, is a mirror to sana's own. she's met a few people who gave her similar vibes, and now she either hates them or considers them a best friend, no in-between. so many things are that way with sana, it seems.
she supposes it's natural that his personality seems so similar to hers; after all, that kind of thing is something that's necessary to someone who, more than anything else, wants to be liked.
oops. she hasn't been listening to him talk at all. how long has he been waiting for her to answer? shit.
she tries to laugh it off, blinking a few times and raising a hand to rub the back of her head sheepishly. "i'm sorry, it's been a long day," she says, though it's mostly a lie. "i totally zoned out. could you repeat the question?"
"totally fine," the boy chuckles, waving a hand dismissively. sana fights the urge to scowl -- she would have done the exact same thing if their places were swapped, but she'd be thinking something entirely different. what is he thinking? it's tough to tell. "the sun is really harsh today, so it's good you're in the shade for a bit! the question was, what do you consider 'dating'?"
whoa, really weird topic choice there. sana has to fight to keep the shock off her face; he probably explained all this while she was zoned out, wasn't she? she paints a pensive expression on, but all of a sudden she just wants to get out of here, to find one of her friends that are surely taking advantage of the sales around here and bother them for a while, rather than discuss what feels suddenly strangely personal with a total stranger.
"hm...i guess it depends on the people involved," she says, going for a thoughtful tone and landing reasonably close to it -- close enough for a stranger, at least. "you need to think about and discuss what both of you want, then decide what to do from there together. it's all about communication!" she adds, a bit more pep coming back into her voice, though she can't even tell how genuine it is.
the boy doesn't waste any time, barely even noting her answer before he's moving on. jeez, how many times has he had this exact same conversation all day? no wonder he reminds her so much of herself.
"very interesting answer!" the boy announces, steamrolling once again over sana's introspection. she blinks past it, trying to force herself to focus. the quicker she answers his questions, the better it'll be for the both of them. "next question: do you think it's possible to have physical affection before you date someone?"
this one, at least, is easy. "of course it is! i'm physically affectionate with my friends all the time!" the cheer in her voice this time, at least, is at least partially genuine. "but i think it's important to consider what other people think, too. like, to me, physical affection like hugs or holding hands doesn't have to mean we're dating. it's just another way of telling each other we care about each other. but for other people, it might be different. it all comes back to communication, you know? you have to tell others how you feel, or they'll never know."
the boy nods eagerly, seemingly satisfied with her much more eloquent answer. shocked at herself, sana just blinks, unsure where exactly those words came from. the boy scrawls her information onto his clipboard, then bows politely to her.
relieved to finally be done with the sudden, weirdly draining conversation, sana bows back and hurries off, towards the bus stop where she promised to meet ria.
