auditions have rarely ever been something to fret over, trials and tribulations alike have prepared nora for moments like this tenfold. stood now before studio delta staff, appearance neat and head held high, nora is well aware that first impressions are everything. what she'll be showcasing, of course, would be what truly determines the final outcome, but the initial meeting sets the overall tone for everything.
she doubted a company as straight-laced and strict as this one was rumored to be wanted trainees who lacked in confidence, unable to stand before the masses without a shake to their voice and a sway in their stance. no, nora was sturdy, assured in a way that showed strength.
she was prepared for today, this event being a pleasant change in scenery ( and, perhaps, it'd end up providing her with a permanent departure from the life she currently lived— while generally happy with what she currently had, nora was always striving for more ). her current advances in schooling, alongside the job that'd played a part in polishing her for today's opportunity, were more so stepping stones than they were forever.
nora would not overlook any chance given her way, not when it was clear she was deserving to some extent.
so, as her panel of studio-appointed judges settle into their seats and gaze upon her with expectant eyes, nora begins with her introduction. "good morning everyone, my name is im nora." her voice is light but firm, projecting calmly from where she's stood with an easy smile. "my twenty-first birthday was back in june of this year, and i currently work as a part-time dance instructor when i'm not attending university classes as a full-time student. i'm anticipating graduating with a degree in fashion design next year."
"today, i'll be performing for you all a dance i choreographed myself." nora had spent an ample amount of time mapping everything out, the mood, the song choice itself, what sort of image she'd like to portray. happy with her final results, nora gives the go-ahead for her music to begin, smile widening for a moment as she rolls her shoulders gently. "please, enjoy."
for a moment, the room is silent. then, the music begins, soft and easy to flow to, a rhythm nora easily finds center within as she begins her routine ( ooc ; note that this isn't a one for one of her choreography, but a heavy inspiration for what her choreography is in terms of vibe and movement ). nora has always held a preference for choreography that showcases a freer, bouncier sense of swag, precision without strict rigidity, so she leans more into that today, wanting to show the best of herself. above all else, however, there's a sensuality to it nora finds pleasure in showcasing, soft lines bending into softer curves before speeding up, only to break back into relaxation. she's content, pleased with herself and the way she moves, lips never breaking from its coy grin, a subtle smirk, eyes engaging.
by the end, she's left panting lightly, echoes of what had been playing fading into the quiet as she gives herself a moment. fixing loose strands of hair as she moves closer to stand before the staff members once more, nora bows. "thank you for seeing me today. i hope to hear back from you soon."
"look at that," her mother beams, reading the email off of hyeran's phone. "you have a callback, that's a good thing. i wish it was an offer but," she sighs, shaking her head. "i guess this time it's going to be a bit harder to get in, isn't it?"
her mother rented out a studio space for her to practice. truthfully, hyeran should be grateful that the other supports her dreams this much. though, is it really her dream? or is it just what her mother wants for her.
the idol wannabe knows deep down that her mother is just living vicariously through her, pushing this dream to be a singer upon her daughter because she never got her own five minutes of fame and blames it on hyeran.
'her birth ruined everything,' is something she grew up hearing her mother say to her family and her friends.
she forces these thoughts, these memories to the back of her mind while she practices. hyeran has a goal, to receive a contract, and she's going to perform at her absolute best. she's talented, this much she knows. the confidence exudes from her even when she's just standing still.
the days go by in a flash and suddenly hyeran is no longer staring at herself in the mirror but staring at three judges sat behind a long, white table in front of her. they have papers in front of them and she wonders whether it's for them to take notes on. there's a camera set up as well, one she's acutely aware of. she wonders if it's recording now, before her audition has even begun.
although there's a thought to create something original, something new, hyeran decides against it. she's not going to pretend like she's this generation's best singer-songwriter, or as if she has an inkling of what to do when it comes to choreography.
besides, her mother has explicitly discouraged her from fighting the mold too much.
instead, hyeran settles on performing a cover of YunA's better, but not a boring one. she adds her own flair to the song with unexpected, practiced, ad-libs. in the studio, she focuses on her facial expressions, ensuring that her features match the lyrics and timing of the song.
"hello," she greets the judges, chipper. "my name is jo hyeran and i'll be performing a cover of better, by yuna," she makes eye contact with each of them, big smile on her face. "thank you for taking the time to watch me perform today. i've worked hard on my performance and i hope it's one you'll remember for a while."
with a few deep breaths, she readies herself. a minute isn't a terribly long time, so hyeran has to make her impression fast. she fills the room with her energy, compensating for the lack of backup dancers. her voice is booming, reverberating against the walls. she exudes confidence and has clearly practiced her routine ensuring it's polished, and more importantly, perfect.
somehow, claudine made it to this point, being asked to deliver a performance to wow a few judges enough that she gets signed a contract.
she doesn't know how she got here, truth be told. getting a callback was the least of her worries, but it's an opportunity that doesn't come knocking on her door as often as she'd like. naturally, she should take the chance, shouldn't she? her musical performing abilities came from her time doing musical plays during theatre, but she had taken a keen interest in rapping as of late. maybe it's the tie-in between rhythm and beat that tickled her brain a little. nonetheless, that's what she decided she'll do for her audition this time around.
after a moment of introduction ( stating the essentials, like her name and her age, crafting a polite and excited smile on her face despite everything ), she goes ahead onto her performance.
while she knows she wouldn't be the most musically talented person in the room, she does do her best to make up for it through stage presence and overall confidence. she thinks that's the key—her confidence to deliver a stable performance, maintaining eye contact and she speaks out her verses as she had practiced days on end. the song she chose, love talk, has a rather chill and playful vibe to it, so that's what she's trying to display. with her expressions, with the sway of her hips, with the way she holds her mic. she embodies it in the way she dresses too—knowing that costume and outfits are also what makes a performance.
i can't figure him out, he's like an ocean, give me a tube! her lines come out of her as she acts out the story of a helpless yet giddy girl in love. hope not, tell me for real, i wanna know how you feel. she continues on, a smile on her face, although she remembers to keep her beat on time with the music. this is about technical skills too after all, she can't just fake confidence to make it—it has to come from somewhere.
i wanna be in love with you, with you. she sings along too, showcasing a portion of her vocal capabilities. tell me how you feel boy, let's love talk.
the performance ends eventually, and claudine gives the panel of judges a bow, thanking them for their time.
˙ ˖ ✧ — DREAMWAVE CALLBACK.
aka eunbin performs a self-choreographed routine / note: not a direct reference, purely linked for inspo vibes & whatnot!
truthfully, eunbin hadn't been expecting a callback. so when she receives the call about coming to audition, she quickly begins to think about what she should showcase. since she mentioned that her strength was dancing and choreographing her own routines, it only made sense that that's what she'll have to prepare.
when it came to coming up with a routine, she went back to her list of strengths. what were her strengths? well, she had a pretty broad background when it came to dance. the ballet lessons from when she was a baby that evolved into jazz dance lessons and then eventually cheerleading. all of those required big movements and sharp lines. that was still one of her strengths today. all her moves had power behind them, and she knew when to emphasize certain parts of choreography.
however, she also knew she wasn't the best when it came to hip hop choreography, so that would be a pass. she'd need to come up with something that showcased her charms as well. something that appeared more lovely yet powerful at the same time. she boasted so much about her cheerleading experience, but eunbin doubts any trainer at a kpop company wants to see a straight on cheerleading routine. that's why she had to mesh all of these together to, hopefully, provide them with the best of the best.
the routine that she eventually comes up with falls on the lovelier and more feminine side, if she had to choose a couple of words to describe it, but there were still some powerful footwork moves that she incorporated along with some upper body movement. again, her strengths fell in being precise and strong with her moves, but she didn't want to do a style that didn't fit her image.
on the day of the audition, she walks into a room to be met with a couple of judges. she's gone through this before both when she applying for college and the cheer squad, so she's not super nervous, but she can't tell what they're exactly expecting from her.
"hello. i'm shin eunbin, and i will be performing a self-choreographed dance routine. thank you!" she introduced herself first before giving them the cue to start playing the song snippet she's prepared.
a minute really isn't a long time, and it was pretty difficult trying to fit what she could in that minute. the experience is over before she can even register it in her mind, and she finds herself saying goodbye as she steps out of the room.
letting out a sigh, all she can do now is wait. if they call her back, great. if they don't, then she'll just have to move on with her life and wait for the next time.
had kaito expected to get a callback from his audition? not really. yes, he had hoped that he would, though hoping and actually achieving something were two totally different things. so, the moment he received the notice of passing, including the instructions that he needed to know about the callback audition, he began thinking of what he wanted to show them. he could easily show them a self-made choreography, though at the same time he's sure that he had shown most of what he could do when it came to dancing when he was on next gen, so, in the end, he decided to do a self-composed rap instead.
standing in front of the company officials, kaito takes a moment to introduce himself and make sure that everything is in place. "hello, i'm yamamoto kaito. i'm currently 24 years old and currently working part-time as a dance teacher and tutor." once he's done with the introductions, he gives a slight nod to one of the staff members off to the side to show that he's now ready to begin and within a matter of seconds, he's starting.
making sure that kaito displays not only his confidence but also his more charismatic side, he makes a point to maintain eye contact with those within the room. after what he had learned and experienced from participating in next gen, he even makes sure to have fun and let loose a little. he not only treats this like an audition, which is what it is, but also shows them that any ounce of nervousness he had previously felt upon arriving was now gone as he continues performing the rap he had prepared for them today.
only once he's done does he stop and let out a heavy sigh of relief, thankful that he had managed to keep his flow during his performance and also glad that he hadn't choked up and made a fool of himself. bowing politely and thanking them for their time, kaito finally exits the room and can only hope that they'll at least consider giving him a chance to prove that he's more than capable of doing this. he won't let them down if they were to decide giving him a chance.
somehow, yuwol had found himself amidst a panel of judges once more. it’s familiar yet foreign at the same time, the last instance he finds himself in this predicament he’d also been surrounded by an assortment of cameras pointed in his direction. and yet, in this more private setting in a room, the pressure on his shoulders feel a lot more tangible—considerably heavier, too.
why? is it because this feels like his last chance? if he doesn’t make it here, he’d have to face the very real and harsh truth that his parents were, without any shred of doubt, right all along. he doesn’t know what will happen if he moves forward on this path, if this choice he’s making will prove fruitful later down the road. but he doesn’t want to be stuck in this state of helpless and lifeless limbo any longer—he wants to break free out of his cage too, desperate for fresh air, for something that he can learn to love again from the very beginning, without the influence of his parents tainting something he holds dear.
perhaps it’s the sense of desperation that’s spurring him onward, bringing his body back to life in an adrenaline rush pointing towards survival. either way—here yuwol is now, standing before the judges, trying to channel everything that he had learned throughout next gen, and from the trainees that he knew; the people that had helped him in the months leading up to this moment.
he had thought back to next gen, the moments where he receives praise from the judges back then. noticeably, it’s when he makes a change in the musical arrangement, when he completely melts into some sort of ‘concept’ and makes it show in his facial expressions along with the movements of his choreography ( except for this part, he needed to reference things online ).
yuwol remembers when he added an orchestra spin to one of his performances, taking on a more horror or thrilling concept. he does the same here too, showcasing his music composition strengths, weaving a different take to the song. a cover with its own spin. he chooses the song nxde, recording it, creating a more chilling tone to the instrumentals of the song.
he doesn’t have as much skills in choreography, so to showcase the newer take on the song in under sixty seconds, he relies on his voice, the facial expressions he makes, and adding a small spin to his dance movements—lingering in a few steps, to keep the thrilling and elongated vibe of the changed instrumentals. nothing too crazy, knowing that his newly acquired strengths are in the technical aspects of dancing instead of the creativity in choreography. the originally theatrical themes of the song helps emphasize what he’s trying to showcase too, yuwol thinks. yuwol hopes.
yuwol puts emphasis in his vocals too, finding stability in performing live due to his recent experiences. how do i look? put on my beautiful self, he sings, voice steadier than he expected, keeping his expressions in check as he faces the judges, a smirk on his face with his eyes boring into the person in front of him—embodying what he has in mind; a chilling story of a doll trying to break free of its restraints, almost.
something like that. it’s a sixty seconds performance—it’s not a full stage after all; but he does his best in small lapse of time he’s given.
whether his efforts have resonated with the judges… that’s not up to him.
(super ordinary, a song written by seira about the feeling of wanting to be a superhero, helping others and be popular, but truly just being another ordinary person that everyone will forget about in the future)
sure, seira had been disappointed when she was given no contract at the end of next gen, but she didn’t want to give up, she attempted her best to continue practicing so hopefully some day she could become a trainee again. sr media seemed like a company that had everything seira could wish for, and she was excited to audition for the company, hoping for the best outcome.
she stands in the practice room, it’s been a while since she last auditioned anywhere, but she’ll try her best, she’s practiced so much that she doesn’t even feel nervous at the moment, she’s more so just excited. “hello my name is ito seira! i am twenty-two years old and i currently work in a café” the simple stuff is out of the way “today i’ll be rapping a song i wrote myself called ‘super ordinary’, thank you for being willing to listen” she gives a bow, a deep breath escaping her lips before she begins.
though seira has been writing songs for about a year now, she’s actually never shown her lyrics to anyone, so this’ll be a first, she’s confident in her rap, and hoping the best for her lyrics.
and so she begins, showing off sixty seconds of a rap she’s written, she’d carefully picked which song she wanted to show off, and she’s ended with this one. she raps for the full sixty seconds, a comforting feeling going through her body, oh did she miss this. and it’s over too quickly it feels like, she gives another bow “thank you for listening, again, this was ito seira!” and she’s done.

those that choose to accept the invitation should visit the seocho training facility on saturday, september 28, at 7am sharp, where they will be escorted to different audition rooms depending on which company invited them in.
auditions will be held in simple dance practice rooms, with minimal decoration. a panel of five staff members will be present to judge the auditionees. upon arriving in the room, the staff members will ask for some basic information, such as name, age and occupation, before letting the auditionees showcase their skills.
this will be a 60 second performance in front of the panel. wannabes can bring their own music prerecorded, and some props and handheld instruments if so they choose. it’s important to think critically about what piece to perform in front of the judges - make sure it shows your strengths so you can wow these judges and secure a contract!
final results will be announced in the first half of october. good luck!
welcome to the second part of the dream wave auditions! this event is for the wannabes listed on this post only and will run until october 9 at 11:59pm EST. any solos posted after the deadline will not count towards participation.
please use the hashtag #BE:DREAMWAVEAUDITION2 for all posts relating to this event.
TO PARTICIPATE IN THE AUDITION PROCESS, please write a 200+ word solo about your character auditioning. please note the word count requirement - as this is meant to be a simpler audition process with a shorter deadline than our usual 4+ weeks, we are also lowering the word count for this.
as stated in the post, companies will be judging your muse based on what they hope they’ll get to see, according to what the muse said in their interview. it might not be the best idea to perform a self-choreographed contemporary dance routine when you previously mentioned you’re best at singing.
once you have posted your solo, please submit a link to it to the events blog.
the final list of muses invited into the companies’ trainee program will be posted at a later date.
