How to recolor black & white images (& remove logos) based on this edit for anon This tutorial uses adjustment layers and the colorize function in hue/saturation on Photoshop to recolor B&W images.
hi I rlly liked ur jeonghan recolouring edit and I was wondering if u knew of any comprehensive tutorials that teach u how to recolour??
hi thank you so much!! I made a tutorial here if that helps :) instead of using color fills, I use the colorize function in hue/saturation, it helps it look a little more natural! curves help account for tones and adjusts brightness, whereas selective color can help correct areas that are too yellow/pink/cyan!
For once I recorded my process in editing! Unfortunately I started when I already chose my psd’s and set the background, but you do get to see how I add rim light (glow) to a subject, and how I manip an existing image and merge another image (cyborg arm), I also play around with drawing onto the subject to make it more seamless
I didn’t do any audio explaining anything but if people really want it I can try! 🤩
music: run to you by seventeen
hello! your gifs are really pretty I was wondering how you managed to make them run so smooth/at such a high framerate??
hi !!! 🤩AND AHH THANK YOU SO MUCH! well hmm my gif process is pretty simple:
download source file at highest quality: the studio choom came in 4K+60fps, though usually mp4 videos come in 1080p+30fps! Also I check the rosebay’s twitter for .tp files (hq files from the broadcast)
process video through vapoursynth (for mac, you can use it for pc or avisynth): i usually take scenes for 3 seconds (which coincidentally is how long a svt member appears anyway skldjhfakjf) my settings are usually: finesharp + BML3D for denoise
paste code + download output from VS
nowadays i ‘open’ the video and edit the video group on photoshop vs. frames: this is to just save time since I can smart sharpen everything, but you can easily use an action to sharpen all the frames OH also if you import as frames, import ALL of them
add psd/edits then save as gif!
I am pretty sure tumblr increased their gif size to 10mb, so unless you made a 540x540 gif with 200 frames, it’s hard to hit the limit! i hope this helps :) tbh i think the quality starts off with your starting video quality!
LQ zoom (and mini preview, though I posted the full image on twitter) but its interesting how adjusting the coloring of certain areas really blends everything in! The bottom pic on the bionic arm you can see the blacks are darker than the darkest part in my edit - it makes the arm stick out not in the best way!
I used curves to bring the black to a more “faded” look and added color adjustment layers to add a tinge of pink/blue as reflections of the neon surroundings, since the bottom pic the bionic arm was really really gray!
anyway!! cyborg 96line coming soon 🤩
do you mind sharing your vapoursynth settings for your gifs? they look so sharp and clean and they're just very nice to look at and i was just wondering. (there are way too many "ands" in that previous sentence i know)
I don’t mind sharing :) truth be told I haven’t made gifs in a while so I kind of forgot LOL but dont worry when I was making a new gif I sort of got back into the groove of it all HAHA
this is usually what I like to use:
gifsize: doesn’t matter, but I use the default 268x350preprocessor: I use 30fast usually but if the clip is REALLY short and I want it to feel longer, then I’ll use 60fast as I’ve done heredenoise: BM3D - I usually go in the halfway mark....for no reason LOL i just found it looks nicersharpening: i make it SUPER SHARP because I usually don’t want to sharpen in photoshop
& that’s basically it! nothing super spectacular. I think for nice gifs the starting footage is SO important. sometimes poor quality videos will always look wonky no matter what. Also recoloring is important too, sometimes having a super colorful gif that is super contrasted will showcase more “pixels”
hi bea! i starting making gfx a few months ago and i already feel stuck because for the past two months i’ve tried to make some things but they never turn out the way i want them to and i’m getting really frustrated so do you have any helpful advice for me? i would appreciate it a lot 💗
hi lovely! sorry this is so late T_T but I hope my words can help you :)
making graphics is such a fun hobby and I’m so glad you begun to make some! that being said, it is difficult when you start, but there’s no way but up after that, right? :D trust me, even when I have been using photoshop for 4-5 years I still feel frustrated that my envisioned ideas don’t work out. But instead of letting that stop me, I keep trying! Sometimes you find the best techniques through mistakes! here’s some advice that I hope helps uwu
1. I would first try to figure out what effect you are aiming for, because chances are, someone has made a tutorial for your desired effect! Sometimes the hardest part is describing what you are trying to achieve if that makes sense! For instance in my recent tattooed svt edit, for the 2nd photo (w/ the text saying Before Dawn) I tried implementing a RGB split effect (on the text, its minor but its there!! LOL) that I saw here in this Adidas promo photo. I didn’t know it was called a RGB split so I tried googling “rainbow spiral” “rainbow 3D effect” and eventually i stumbled upon the words RGB split. If you describe to me the effect you want I can try helping you find a tutorial or explain it myself?
2. Another important tip i suggest is to start simple and build up your skills that way :) here is an old old edit of mine, it’s actually really simple, i just crop out joshua’s head from pictures and then I add a white layer beneath joshua’s face and crop that layer leaving a small border. This gives an illusion of a sticker if that makes sense? Even on professional sites like Behance you’ll see that sometimes the edits that get the most attention are simple edits, because their use of space, colors, and minimal design captures the viewers eyes.
3. it’s okay to trash your drafts! I remember in my college writing course, my teacher told us “in writing, you must kill all your darlings” meaning that in order to become a better writer, you must be able to revise your work tremendously, even if your revisions look nothing like your original work. I believe this applies really well to graphic making as well. take note of the images below, which is an old edit of this graphic. the left was my initial design, until i trashed everything and remade the edit to the right. i always get nervous trashing designs because i get attached (lol) but i really believe that being a better gfx maker requires revisions and risks :) you’d be surprised at your own skills once you see it being laid out on the screen :D
4. Most of all, have fun making it, and don’t let your frustrations get away from the fun in making gfx! your gfx is made with your hard work and efforts and you should be proud of them :) you can always upload an edit to your drafts and look at it at another time if you want to continue to refine it!
hi bea can i ask you a question? how did you make your cyberpunk au, i know you spent a lot of work on it so i won't trouble you asking how you did it in detail but how did you manage to blend the cyber punk things to the original image. it's done seamlessly. i love your work so much. i really hope this isn't annoying you by sending this ask.
hi anon! 🦋🌸
i’m SO sorry this is so delayed! but I figured I’d answer now since I don’t want you to think I’m ignoring you ;;
My plan is to edit the next edition of my cyberpunk au! (97 line), I’ll film my process for the background part to help you since it’s hard to say what I do in steps!
But if you want a quick answer and are experienced with Photoshop, I take images from unsplash (they are free to repurpose!) and I put the .png of the member in front of it. The biggest thing is to COLOR MATCH! Usually the photos I choose are vibrant and have high contrast so I match that with the member, then I add layers over the member to fit them in the scenery (e.g. adding red rimlight if they are near a red source of light).
Another trick I do is I use lens blur on the background with some grain, this puts a ‘soft focus’ to the member and not the background (which can get busy at times LOL)
I showed something like that here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMyzts6piTM (but it cuts to when I’m editing woozi’s arm haha - i didn’t catch the beginning T_T)
