2. When someone says "this is [character name] coded," what comes to your mind
red leather. gold. fabric chokers and heavy scarves. choppy waves. safety scissors. colored contacts. twinkies. traffic lights. malibu shots. shimmer eyeshadow. dark circles.
10. Their most defining moment vs your favorite one of them
probably when she first drank alcohol tbh. her desperation for change led her down a road that she knew she probably wouldn't be able to come back from, but at that point anything seemed better than that. it especially shows how important it is to her to be able to do things on her own, and how hard it is for her to ask for help - even when she *really* needs it.
my favorite moment of hers is probably when she confided in milo about the reason she wanted to hide her eye. developmentally that scene was so important even though idek if it was canon lol
6. How well do they cope with the reality of their mortality
she doesn't! instead she blames milo for getting everything she wants and still resenting her. she is not prepared for the future and feels like she never will be, especially when everyone will be slowly dying around her - andshe for some reason blames milo ;-;
14. What could be considered as their worst moment
probably when she told milo that she'd rather pretend he was dead so it wouldn't hurt so much when it happened?
47. If they were an object, Which material(s) would they be made of
colored glass (red, yellow, green) and gold sodder.
The Visitor
Part 2 of 2(?) [🌹] Part 1
I scrambled to put on my shoes, rushed out the door, shoved the key into my car, and backed out of my driveway quite a bit faster than necessary. Today was Thursday.
I go to the facility once a week, at 3pm, every day. The internet told me it could help my mom feel less startled by my visitations if I came at the same time - even if she didn't exactly know why.
So I couldn't be late.
I knew the way by heart. I pick up chrysanthemums from the flower shop every week, and a persimmon scented soap every two months. There are no real persimmons involved, of course. I wouldn't want her to have a reaction - especially when she doesn't exactly know she has an allergy. I triple check every time I buy the soap that they haven't changed the ingredients.
They never do.
I pulled into a parking spot at the flower shop and slammed my car door shut. I barely managed not to slam my face into the building. I was going to be so late-
My chrysanthemums were waiting on the front table, next to a pair of well-loved gardening gloves and a small slip of paper.
"On the house today," it read, "anniversaries are hard for everyone. Out on vacation, but sending love and support. - Christine"
I shook my head and left five dollars on the table anyway. Anniversaries were just the same as every other day, I tried to convince myself. No reason for pity parties or free flowers.
Today marked a year since my mother had been put in full-time care. I knew it was better for her there. Really, I did. My father and I couldn't take care of her on our own.
But sometimes, I wish we could.
I tried to get my dad to come and visit her, hoping that an anniversary would be good enough for him. He said he wouldn't set foot in there as long as he lived, as long as she was still being kept prisoner in there. I understood why. Really, I did. But it still hurt.
The door's bell jingled as I left the flower shop. I wish she could have heard it. She loved those sorts of things.
Her persimmon and allspice soap was nearly out of stock, but the one that was left was one enough. My watch glared at me as I left the store, and the time caught my eye. 3:02. I muttered a curse under my breath as I tried to reason with myself.
She usually thinks you're the mailman, Dex. Mailmen don't always come at the same time. She won't even remember what time you come every week. She won't even remember your name. She won't even remember you were born.
My eyes stung.
I turned into the parking lot and scanned my ID card, feeling nearly despondent as I tried to pull myself together.
Dexter Greene 12/5/57
DD of Eleanor Greene
I was told it stood for direct descendant. I always wished they could just say that I was her son.
I wiped my eyes, took some slow, deep breaths... and opened the door. It was stunningly silent.
The facility was white and modern, crisp but warm lights shining overhead. Paintings hung everywhere, some I recognized and some made by patients. I scanned the walls for something, anything, made by my mom.
Not a one.
"Dex?"
I turned, grateful for a familiar voice - and a familiar face. "Hey, Angel. I'm here to see my mom."
She smiled softly, handing me a pen and a small box. "You can put the soap in here if you'd like, sign her name on it. It can be like an anniversary present."
I nodded, although all I really wanted was to retreat into the floor. Even though I wasn't going to see her for more than five minutes, I still felt so...
Scared?
Broken.
I carefully placed the bar of soap in the box. "For Eleanor," I signed - even though she barely remembered her own name anymore.
"Thanks," I nearly whispered, without looking up. My eyes began to turn glassy without consulting me - but it was time to put that away. Time to see my mom.
I rubbed my eyes and gave back Angel's pen. She pulled back her hair into a ponytail and knocked, soft and gentle, on her door. When no response came, slowly and quietly, she opened it.
"Eleanor? There's a visitor here for you." Angel stood in the doorway.
"Did they bring any persimmons?"
My mom wasn't in view from my place beside the door, but Angel's expression softened as she looked at me.
She pulled on a gentle smile as she turned back to her. "I'm afraid not."
"It's quite alright. I'll be just as well without persimmons. Perhaps I'll request a basket next time."
I wrung my hands and hoped she wouldn't request something I couldn't bring her.
"Should I send him in?" Angel asked. She tok a quick glance at me and my small, pitiful box and bouquet before saying, "He would love to see you."
"Who is it?"
"Your son," Angel replied.
"Dex?"
My eyes widened and my jaw dropped. Angel looked over at me, the same surprise written all over her face.
"Yes, Dex Greene. He's here to talk to you. Can I send him in?"
"Of course!"
I held my bouquet and soap in shaking hands as I stepped through the doorway.
"... Mom?"
There she was. The mom I knew. The mom I missed. Desperately.
But the moment she saw me, her eyes turned to glass and her smile turned placid.
"Hello," I said, trying to contain my heartbreak.
"Hello, dear. Have you come to deliver the mail?" she asked with a smile. "I've been waiting for my package."
I blinked, slowly. My heart sank, lodging as a pit of emptiness deep in my stomach.
"Yes. I- I couldn't seem to find the mailbox," I tried my best to say with a smile. "My name is Dex, by the way."
"It's lovely to meet you, Dex."
I had hoped my name would stir something in her - make her remember me again, even for another moment. But no such luck.
I ran a hand through my hair as I scrambled to go through my routine. "It's nice to meet you, too." I replaced the old chrysanthemums on the mantle with new ones and put the soap on her small wooden coffee table.
"I hope you like your package," I said to her as I walked out the door as fast as I could - without seeming like I was totally panicking.
But I was. I was totally panicking. My mom knew my name, but only for a second and then it was gone. She was here, and she disappeared.
I leaned against the wall, hands in my hair, and I hopelessly slid to the ground. "I don't know what to do." My knees shielded my face as I tried to keep from crying.
Angel sat down next to me, taking my hand without a word.
A sob bubbled up in my throat, but I swallowed it back down to join the hole in my heart and the pit in my stomach.
"I can't see her anymore."
Angel's grip on my hand loosened, maybe from shock.
"... She would get awfully lonely. You're the only one who comes and sees her."
The sob finally spilled over. The tears were hot, like blazing knives streaking down my face.
She let go of my hand and stood up.
"Well... she'll be here when you get back. I have to go tend to other patients, but..."
She handed me a note as she walked away.
"If you need to talk."
A strand of numbers followed.
I threw it away.

2. How does your OC remember their childhood? Is this an accurate reflection of what their childhood was actually like?
he sees most of it through rose colored glasses. his bio mom wasn't actually the best person. obviously she didnt deserve to die in a fire, but i digress. he views his time at the foster center as worse than it was, mostly because he was coping with immense grief and anxiety at the ripe old age of seven, but it was actually a pretty okay facility. you know, for the circumstances.
6. How comfortable is your OC in their skin? Do they like who they are? What would they want to change about themself?
he genuinely likes himself a lot actually. sometimes he wishes he could be more understanding but idk if that's even possible so like.....?
12. What is the worst thing that has happened to your OC? How has it affected their behavior, their health, and their life in general?
his mom died in a fire. he saw her being taken out on a stretcher. that gave him a whole lot of night terrors for pretty much his whole life and a traumatizing childhood. he treats everyone as if they need a bit of extra TLC that day, because he noticed how people did that for him. he doesn't love campfires or fireplaces anymore, but he isn't like afraid of them.
olex needs to shut up i don't want to know about their bedroom habits jesus christ

13. What is something your OC does (to others) that they would not like if others did to them? Are they aware that they do this?
literally everything she does to milo. blame everything about how she was born on him, resent him for getting what she wanted and not understanding why she feels that way, hurting him by constantly reminding him that one day he's #gonna die...
yes she is aware. it's mostly a grudge through teenage years but it does happen at other times as well. just less i think
20. How quick is your OC to shift blame? Do they own up to their mistakes, or are they prone to start pointing fingers at others?
okay like it's complicated and depends on the situation- but usually she blames herself. if not because it's directly her fault it's because life decides to punish her and everyone she loves
31. Are there any places or people your OC is avoiding?
at the age of like 28, absolutely yes. pretty much her entire family and anywhere she could run into them. ahahaha

2. When someone says "this is [character name] coded," what comes to your mind
silver! black and blue stripes, extremely choppy haircuts, brightly colored frogs, big chunky sweaters, the blue heart emoji 💙, paper clip earrings and wired earbuds!
6. How well do they cope with the reality of their mortality
she doesn't really get it yet. like she gets that molly's semi-immortal but she hasn't fully realized all of the stuff that comes with that - but i think that's on purpose. she's really scared of being a blip in the life of a person she devoted her entire life to.
10. Their most defining moment vs your favorite one of them
her most defining moment, to me, isn't a moment at all - it's the years and years she tried to respect molly's decision to run away with this man she'd pretty much just met. she tried really hard to just be a friend she could talk to - and i think that shows her devotion, empathy, self control, and compassion. that's like... her entire personality xD
my favorite one is probably her response when molly confessed to her lol
11. One word they'd use to describe themselves, one you'd use to describe them and lastly a word that their closest/loved one would use to describe them
she would call herself understanding, i'd call her devoted, and molly would call her sexy (and so so so supportive)
26. How do their family and their relationship with them influence their perspective and the way they navigate life
oooh interesting question! she always felt like her parents didn't care about her as much as they should have, so she makes a conscious effort to put as much care as she can into everything she does. this doesn't burn her out - in fact, sometimes she feels really bad about it because it's so *easy*. she wishes her parents had done the same for her.
33. Do they prioritise other people's needs over their own or the other way around
she always prioritizes others over herself. pretty much no matter what.
