Take the memory, leave the shell! Watch what happens when we return seashells to the beach & marine hermit crabs!

Seashells are so important to beaches for a whole host of reasons.

🐚Over-shelling can affect hermit crabs because it reduces the availability of suitable shells for them to inhabit. Hermit crabs rely on empty shells of other creatures for protection and shelter. When there are too few shells available, hermit crabs may be forced to inhabit inadequate shells & pollution as homes, which can hinder their growth and make them more vulnerable to predators and environmental stressors. This can ultimately impact their survival and reproductive success.

🐚Shells provide homes or attachment surfaces for algae, sea grass, sponges, coral and a host of other microorganisms.

🐚Animals such as decorator crabs and octopus use shells as camouflage and many fish use shells as hiding places to avoid predators.

🐚Shells help to stabilize beaches and anchor seagrass.

🐚Shells are used by shorebirds to build nests.

🐚When shells break down, they provide nutrients for the organisms living in the sand or for those that build their own shells. (Shells are a major source of calcium.) I’m a firm believer in when we know better, we do better. I once shelled, and then when I learned all of this, I returned all shells that were not sprayed with a clear varnish to the beach & watched the marine hermit crabs go wild changing shells that were so needed!

beachy!armin who plans trips to the beach every other weekend as a chance to get away. he always invites the most important person in his life, you.

beachy!armin who overpacks every time without fail. who knows if you'll need a winter jacket at the beach? he's researched beach blizzards before and he knows the risk. he can never exercise too much caution, especially when it comes to you.

beachy!armin who lets you pick the music and all of the stops for food & snacks while driving. you're the passenger princess to the max he is not going to let you get bored in the car.

beachy!armin who dies seeing you in your bathing suit even if it's the most basic thing ever and you wear it every time. god help him if you wear something even slightly revealing.

beachy!armin who cooked and baked you the perfect lunch for the beach picnic he plans every time. it's filled with your favorite foods, desserts, and

beachy!armin who collects shells and sea glass to make you jewelry or decorate something for you. it's different every time. a couple of weeks ago he made a shell frame for a picture of the two of you, the week after, a beautiful set of shell earrings and a necklace, and this week it's a wedding ring.

beachy!armin who makes sure that every trip is diverse, often going to different beaches and visiting local restaurants and shops. it's never just the beach with him, he loves everything about the coast too.

beachy!armin who loves to watch you fall asleep in the car on the way back to your house. you always look so peaceful and calm, he finds you so beautiful.

beachy!armin who treats your potential sunburns with the upmost love and care. even if you get the tiniest amount of sun sickness, he's going to mend you to health like you've got a 104° fever. and if you got really hurt, jellyfish sting, stepped on a shell, etc, he won't let you move a muscle.
