Back on shore, on the packed beach, Arthur immediately started scanning for his sister. Shaking the extra water from his hair, he turned left—and unexpectedly met a steady gaze.
Some skinny, pale, dark-haired guy in a cheap cap was staring straight at him. A big sketchbook in his hands.
Blue-eyed. Cute, with soft, full lips.
The look wasn’t appraising, not like the ones Arthur was used to in clubs, at the gym, or sometimes in the pool locker room. But the curiosity was obvious.
Interesting.
As soon as the guy realized he’d been caught staring, his expression snapped to startled and scared. Like a defenseless fawn. Pale cheeks beneath sharp cheekbones flushed adorably pink. He ducked his head at once and lifted the sketchbook higher, hiding behind it like a shield.
Well, maybe I’m imagining things, Arthur thought.
He went back to his unsuccessful search for his sister—until he once again ran into that frightened, curious blue gaze peeking at him over the edge of the sketchbook.
Shy, but clearly interested.
Arthur pushed his wet, overgrown hair back from his face, smoothing it away—not entirely innocently— giving this fawn-eyed Bambi a good view of his solid bicep and prominent six-pack.
He was already half-regretting not being here alone. The day could’ve turned out a lot more pleasant if, instead of lunch with his sister, he could have a close, no-strings-attached little encounter with this timid local. After all, the bed in his hotel room was wide enough for two.
“Arthur! I’m here!” Morgana’s voice made him turn. His sister was waving a towel. She’d sprawled on a lounger under an umbrella, with some long-haired surfer sitting beside her.
Arthur couldn't help glancing back at the boy—but where the dark-haired cutie had been sitting, there was only his sketchbook.
Arthur shrugged and headed for his sister, just a little disappointed. He really didn’t feel like watching somebody else’s flirting when his own potential hookup had just vanished.
