What is mulch?
Mulch usually consists of decaying leaves, bark, or compost. It is used to spread around or over a plant to enrich or insulate the soil.
What type of mulch do I get?
If a customer is looking for cheap mulch, our landscape experts recommend red mulch. If you are paying more than $1.85 for red mulch in Palm Beach County, you are paying too much! Red mulch is the cheapest mulch! That doesn't mean red mulch is the worse. Red mulch is easier to sell and most customers are attracted to the red color. Even if a company is labeling their red mulch "premium red mulch," that doesn't mean the mulch is any better than the regular priced mulch they are selling.
If a customer has children, or wants to lay mulch at a church or playground, we recommend they buy play safe mulch! Play safe, or playground mulch, is a little more pricey. It's more of an organic choice because it doesn't include artificial dyes or chemicals, like red mulch does.

Can I get a deal on mulch?
Chances are, a customer is already getting a deal on mulch. One bag of mulch should consist of 2 cubic feet. If you are paying more than $2 for most common 2 c.f. bags of mulch, you are being overcharged. Red mulch, cypress mulch and playground mulch should never cost more than $2.
