Can’t believe I only just realized the beacon app is called Pocket Beacon as a reference to pocket bacon. Uh critrole you win everything
Calling the Beacon app 'Pocket Beacon' took me a second, but that's a genius name for it
So far, the only issues with the Beacon app for me are that the subtitles are not appearing on all videos and are totally missing in the Android app, and that the position you've stopped is not saved (though it was working yesterday).
is anyone else having this problem with beacon app where theres no visual, only audio?
I want to get to the point where I am able to watch the new CR episodes early enough to get in on the story and speculation and stuff in real time with the rest of you guys. However, I have a bit of an issue, and it has a lot to do with the way Beacon is set up.
Beacon does not play well in my car. Even though I pair my phone with my car and I can get the audio to play through my car speakers, I cannot control the app via the dash controls. I have to actually use my phone, which, as you can imagine is a big pain when trying to drive. My car/phone do the same thing if I listen to something via YouTube so I'm pretty sure it has a bit to do with how Beacon episodes are all video format (even in podcast mode. It's still a video. It just only has a black background instead of the actual show video)
As such, I've only been listening when working out, which is its own set of problem. Not only is this only roughly an hour or so a day, but I'm very HoH and I take my ears out when working out. Sweat is bad for them, and I can't wear any over the ear headphones while I have them in. Depending on who is talking or how they are talking, it can be very hard for me to parse what they are saying. Like, any time Brennan goes into his very soft spoken kinda low mumbly dramatic tension growl I just cannot understand any of it. (This is not a dig at him. I have the same issue with Matt when he does his really soft dramatic narration. And when Aabriya was DM it was just as bad (honestly. I couldn't understand anything she said as Spider Queen which made crown keeper stuff difficult for me))
Back when I first got Beacon, I was able to link Beacon and Spotify so that I could play the audio from Beacon through that, which let me use it in my car. This was great because I spend a lot of time in my car for work and because I actually have working ears in the car. Not to mention the sound quality in the car is pretty solid. Not sure how or why that no longer works, though. So, I'm kinda hoping to open the floor up for any ideas.
Do you all have any suggestions for different apps I might use? Do you know if there's a way to get Beacon to play nice with my car speakers? Any other QOL suggestions?
One of the benefits to having the show in video format is that when I DO miss some dialogue, I can pull my phone out, rewind, and watch the video with the subtitles running, but then we get back into the issue that I can't do that while driving, and if I figure a way out to get Beacon to work via another podcast app, I'll be swapping back and forth between Beacon and Whatever App when I go between driving and working out which will be a huge pain in the ass trying to find my spot.
... I should see if there are transcripts available somewhere. That way I don't have to use video subtitles and don't have to keep texting Tobi like "what the fuck did they say at <time stamp>"
