Who else used to make these things all the time?
Beaded crocodile newt!! Took about a week to make.
The pattern I used was supposed to be for using wire, but I haven't had good luck with wire actually holding up over time, since it snaps if you bend it too frequently... I wound up using thread instead, which worked out pretty well outside of making the process like 10x longer. I also filled it with plastic pellets so it could keep its shape better (which makes it nice and weighted and fun to hold as a side result!).
