What’s the secret to changing habits? Believing habits can change. Focusing so much on building the new you have no time to re-member the old. When triggering stimuli shows up stay present, observe, embrace the discomfort by doing the opposite of what you have done in the past or what you’d normally do.
How can you stay present when you’re being challenged in such a way that it feels like a magnetic force is pulling you in a direction you don’t want to go. First, know the feeling so when it shows up you’re familiar with the sensation and can call it out instead of acting it out.
The next best method that has helped me is to get still and to consciously connect with my breath. This minimizes the resistance and so you’re no longer pulling against and away from something, you’re instead building momentum around relaxing and being present with yourself and the old habit.
Being present is what affords you the opportunity to observe your mind and your thought pattern. Being in observation mode creates space energetically between thought and action. Observation presents you with an opportunity for change (O.F.C). You get to think. This reflection time is very helpful because you tap into wisdom. You can then pull the wisdom from previous experiences and reconnect with your why.
Reconnecting with your why positions you to do the opposite of what you’d done in the past because reflecting has helped you re-member that you don’t want the same results. You’ll notice the magnetic urge even leaves after you’ve relaxed and had the conversation with yourself and your memories.
Practice is key with using this system of staying present, observing, and embracing discomfort but let it burn because that’s when you know you’re reaching another level in mastering the art of being an expert on you and holding yourself accountable to what your higher self intends to do.
