#Repost @telltalefood with @get_repost ・・・ Ad. Make a New Years resolution for the planet. It has never been a more important time to live with sustainability at the forefront of our lives. Individual meat consumption has doubled in the last 50 years. 200 species of plants and animals are going extinct every single day — 1000 times faster than the natural rate. There is more plastic on supermarket shelves than ever before, and 1.5 billion “bags for life” were sold in the UK last year... that’s 54 per household. So as we head into the new year, let’s make some positive sacrifices in our lives that improve the future of our planet and all the organisms we share it with. A resolution for the earth and its oceans. I’ve made many changes since I moved to the farm, so you’re not going to hear about keepcups and water bottles because that should be our baseline. Here are some from the last few years as well as my pledge for 2020. Compostible baking parchment. Beeswax wraps, or Tupperware instead of cling film. Biodegradable bin bags. Soap not shower gel. Dramatically reduce meat and dairy consumption. With the money you save, buy quality not quantity and support the farmers who work hard to improve the biodiversity and health of the land around them... as well as the welfare of their livestock. Turn down the heating and wear a jumper. Eat seasonally. Ignore best by dates and use your nose. Avoid single-use plastic in every way possible. Don’t buy what you don’t need and invest in things that last. My pledge for 2020 is to carry a canvas bag everywhere I go. For picking up litter while walking the dogs, shopping and foraging. If we all made these small steps... it would have a massive impact. I’m honoured to be working with @skyoceanrescue @wwf_uk and would love to hear your resolutions, so share this post and spread the word.
