Jenna grew some killer rattlesnake and romano beans so we’ve slow-cooked them with garlic and olive oil. Beans and greens is perfect as ever with big scarlet runners and chicories and cashew cheese. Getting our messy wabi sabi shop garden all springy, just in time for a top-secret major media outlet photoshoot tomorrow. Of note: we send all our food waste to @communitycompostco, and then it comes back in the form of compost—a miracle! And look at all that sage springing back into action, waiting to be used in Jenn’s Roasted Plum and Sage Caramels and the Smoky Corn on the Cob Bar. And our homage to John Waters pal has some #beansarequeens springing up under her, scarlet runners or something I’ve already forgotten. So nice. Spring feels. It’s Rachel’s birthday tomorrow (Thursday). And she’s working until 3! Go in and shower her with HBs (and tips!!) eh? Rachel and Chrissy have been with us since day one, nearly two years ago. What a joy they both are. People you’re just happy to see every day. Rachel’s our Lagusta’s Luscious general manager—she not only manages Commissary! and not only works behind the counter at Commissary!, but we’re slowly growing a position for her as a GM of the whole shebang, chocolate shop, everything, doing big-picture work, helping to make everything run as smoothly as she makes that little cafe on Church Street glide along. She’s also a genius cook with a spot-on palate, a driven and talented barista, and, most of all, a kind and soft human I’m so happy to have become friends with over the past two years. Thank you, Rachel, for being here. Jasper made Rachel this corn version of herself, in honor of one of her favorite flavors, and I’m so happy to see that Bean-gusta (thank you Jenn! #beansarequeens) finally has a friend.
