@tee.fall — a truly outstanding member of our community — took this photo with some of the food we’ve been making for Ulster County Project Resilience. This project pays (🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼) local restaurants to make food for people who need it right now. 💖If you need food assistance, google them and sign up! 💖The rest of this white space is a caption I wrote for @lagustasluscious but it’s relevant here too so: I have never ever thought about this job as an essential service, but the government having designated it and @llcommissary as such, and having to pivot the businesses to a strange new way of operating has really done a number on all of our heads. We are not health care professionals. We are not doing the unbelievable work of keeping people alive. But independent businesses, particularly food businesses with their so-slim margins, are, to me, what I love about the world. Strange shops that exist solely / excruciatingly for the pleasure of people who “get it.” We contain too many multitudes for most. The world likes a tag line and “innovative and delicious vegan chocolate made mostly by queers, non-binary humans, and women with ethics built into its supply chain in wildly deep/inefficient ways and a loud-mouthed commitment to Chomskian praxis + Eileen Myles-esque patter [WE WISH] - also #furiousvulvas” doesn’t fit into an Instagram ad real well. But we’ve found you, you’ve found us, and we survive because of it. Coming to work is hard right now for our crew. We suit up. When we walk in the place stinks like bleach solution, not chocolate. When we leave we wipe everything down with bleach solution again. We go through boxes of disposable gloves every day. We are working in two-person crews, damn near 24 hours a day. We are taking all precautions and no chances and it’s lonely and emotions are high and sometimes the lingering bleach gives you a headache. It’s nice to see all the stories and posts of everyone enjoying what we made, eating chocolate under the billions of stars and the waning super moon and everyone on this earth suffering the same but also dreaming the same dreams, as if we weren’t always: going outside. Feeling safe. A little treat sometimes. (at New Paltz, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-7BoxfDBTs/?igshid=1tznv34ds8jba
