Please sign our petition below asking the FWC to change their "Aggressive Bear" killing policy and email the FWC Commissioners to ask that they update their policy. (link our petition in the email). The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has an "Aggressive Bear" killing policy that does not consider the circumstances that cause bears to act aggressively. There are humane and non-lethal ways to handle these situations. The FWC kills bears who act in self-defense or are defending their cubs. If a bear indeed attacked, it would result in severe injuries and even death, yet NO ONE in the State of Florida has ever died from a bear attack. If bears are in residential areas, they are most likely there because of unsecured trash and other bear attractants. We believe in self-defense, including a black bear's right to defend her cubs. North Carolina bears living in Bear Sanctuaries may no longer be protected from hunters if NCWRC Commissioners vote to pass a new bear hunting proposal that would open up bear hunting in areas that have been bear safe havens for more than 50 years. The proposal allows bear hunting at three bear sanctuaries, the Pisgah, Panthertown–Bonas Defeat, and Standing Indian bear sanctuaries. He is ordered back in court on January 19, 2022, at 9:00 AM.   We want to commend the FWC officers and biologists responsible for gathering evidence and charging John Falango. Sadly, the killing of two FL black bears has only resulted in misdemeanor charges. Misdemeanors are considered less serious crimes. This case is a prime example of why animal protection laws need to be stronger and punishments harsher. Let's work together to make sure John Falango is convicted on all counts for shooting and killing a mother bear and her cub, which left two cubs orphaned.
