I'm so tired of people calling edelgard a fascist and making jokes about her hating minorities. I really hate it. We finally get a fleshed out strong morally gray female character who's not overly sexualized in a /fire emblem/ series and this is how the fanbase treats her lmao. It's gotten so bad that I'm actually starting to dislike the other lords (mainly dimitri bc his fans are the most vocal). But anyways, thanks for being a voice of reason and love for edelgard ;v;

oh my godd thank you for agreeing i thought i was just being sensitive fjsdkfs. but i agree completely 100% like. ok. fe fans ask for a strong female character. we got it. asked for a female character who has complex morals/struggles. we got it. and what do yall do? call her racist and say she hates the poor. some people r so fucking rude i stg. (some more ranting under the cut. spoilers for black eagles empire route)

but yeah me too @ the lord statement and im trying to not be to bias against dimitri in favor of edelgard but. its hard sometimes. 

but yeah its my honor to speak up abt how edelgard is treated really unfairly because the game really doesnt make it easy for u to get her story which is a cool idea on paper, but when executed just makes it easier for people not to play her route at all. 

i feel like edelgard is so much more complex than people realize and while her past does not completely justify her actions, her explanation of why she needs to do some things is in depth enough to the point where i dont feel like a “villain” for taking her side, simply that i am doing what needs to be done while feeling remorse for those who get caught in the crossfire. 

it helps a lot that edelgard is never really shown to be heartless or not consider the effect of her actions on others too. she gives people a chance to surrender first a lot of the time and i think the way she handles her trauma, her expectations for herself, and her friends are absolutely amazing and complex

i luckily havent seen anyone call edeleth problematic from my experiences but even without all the Angst/Drama, just the fact that byleth is the one who changes edelgard the Most is what gets to me

correct me if im wrong because of course i havent played the other routes, but from what ive seen/heard, regardless of which house you pick, dimitri is still a bit Off The Chain and Hurting and Claude is still the Chill Guy

However, (SPOILERS), depending on which house you pick, edelgard’s character is the only one who seems to change DRASTICALLY to do an almost 180. if you pick BL, she completely loses control and is used as a puppet (presumably against her own will) for someone else’s motives. If you pick GD, she is portrayed as more tragic, but still dies at the hands of byleth. If you pick BE but side with the church, she still seems to withhold a semblance of her usual Edelgard Self, but definitely not enough to keep herself Stable on her own. If you pick BE and go with her, though, she changes so much. Not only do we witness her empathetic side first hand, but we see that she is noticeably more relaxed and stable. we see her dorkier side and her more emotional sides. and lastly, we see that byleth clearly acts as her anchor or grounding force based on this routes comparison to other renditions of edelgard. Personally, i think this version of her in BE when you go with her is the closest to what edelgard is really like and i think her ending up with byleth is very Natural and has a lot of depth from the perspective of that rute

I AM FERAL FOR EDELGARD. HOLY SHIT. SHE IS GOOD AS A PROTAGONIST AND AS AN ANTAGONIST. SHE IS SO DRIVEN AND STRONG. SHE INFLUENCES THE PLOT SIGNIFICANTLY EVEN IF THE PC DOES NOT CHOOSE HER HOUSE. HER STORY OF SOMEONE WHO ROSE ABOVE HER TRAUMA AND REFUSES TO BE A VICTIM IS SO GOOD.

I agree so much! Im glad you used the words protagonist and antagonist bc I'm so tired of people saying she's a "villain" like. Just because she's the opposing force in their house.

But villains are usually more malicious characters, and just reading Any dialogue with edelgard or listening to anything she has to say about the crests and their relation to her really clears that her intent is anything but malicious.

It's more her methods that can be seen as extreme but even then, looking at the big picture of her situation again, theres arguably not much else she could've done to reach her goal. which contributes to how immersive this game and her character are because I'm not bashing my head over the table over the same old "I want power because power good" rhetoric.

Also, considering all her experiences, I think her drive and refusal to crumble beneath the pressure of her trauma with crests and the empire, and instead focusing on wanting to make a world where no one ever has to hurt like her again is nothing short of admirable. She could've wallowed, sworn for revenge against any and all those who wronged her, or live the rest of her life in a world that she can only dig her heels in the dirt and endure, never doing anything about the torture she knows will continue. But she doesn't. She starts a rebellion against the manipulating power of the church, and even then, will not allow for meaningless sacrifice. She gives people a chance to surrender, and yet is determined to fight with her heart and only remove those absolutely necessary to completing her goal.

I absolutely love Edelgard and her internal conflicts. even though ive been obsessed with this game and analyzing her characterization for a little under a week, I still know theres layers to her character I haven't considered yet and I can't wait to love this girl more.

This Edelgard hate has to stop lol. I dont like her or her choices (because wow shes... ruthless) but we finally get a POWERFUL and NON SEXUALIZED female lord and people are trying to find reasons to hate her??? This is spoiler free, but I dont agree with her choices, I think her path has her on the wrong side, HOWEVER, I respect the hell out of her. Edelgard just went OFF and good for her. Stop hating this iconic figure. We finally had good writing in Fire Emblem, dont ruin this change.

I agree with a lot (note, a lot, NOT all) of her actions/morals and the fact that it can even be debated whether or not what she does is right is such a good show of just how well written she is. But people just want to skip that civil debate/discussion and simplify it to "she's mean so she's a bitch and racist" or even just "she's evil/bad" defeats the purpose of her route being that the world cannot be split into just good or evil, nothing is truly just that. I wish that this discussion could be had without someone having to call the strong female character a bitch lol

I think the whole point of Three Houses’ routes (at least from what I’ve experienced in BE & BL route) is to show how Byleth (us the player) influences these main lords to be better people. Because without Byleth, these lords would’ve taken a darker path.

yup, i agree. i dont argue that byleth definitley acts as a guide for all the lords. again, if this is in reference to my post where i said “edelgard goes through the most change in compared to other lords”, i was referring to the most change in the ABSENCE of byleth, that 5 year gap where we dont know what the fuck happened. and again, thats just my opinion. but my bad, i shouldve been more clear

honestly bless you for being a voice of reason and appreciation for edelgard’s character!! it’s so sad to see how much hate she’s getting and a lot of it discounts her complexity as a character and it’s frustrating. like a female lord that’s ambitious and morally gray is such a cool concept for the series, but everyone is really quick to call her evil and heartless. and tbh i think a lot of it comes from putting the other lords on a pedestal; i love edelgard but i don’t hate/discount the others!
