Bears trade the Patriots Ryan Groy for linebacker Matthew Wells

Bears acquire LB Matthew Wells from Patriots in exchange for offensive lineman Ryan Groy

Today the Chicago Bears traded former undrafted free agent Ryan Groy to the New England Patriots. Many thought it was for an undisclosed draft pick, but that is not the case. The Bears acquired former Mississippi State linebacker Matthew Wells instead.

  Wells was a sixth round pick a few months ago, but can play both safety and linebacker. Wells boasts sideline-to-sideline speed and athleticism. He was a big-time playmaker for Mississippi State. He’ll have to earn his rookie keep on special teams, but has more upside for the Bears.

Bears axe both Michael Bush and Dante Rosario (who they just signed)

Bears axe both Michael Bush and Dante Rosario (who they just signed)

The Bears cut tight end Dante Rosario on Monday and, per reports, will release backup running back Michael Bush. The Bears could save almost 2 million dollars by these cuts.

Bush struggled last season, averaging 3.1 yards on 63 carries. Most of that damage came in December; he had 42 carries for only 69 yards before then.

Bears sign a 6 foot former small school cornerback

It is not that often you see a small school cornerback that is 6’0 that can play, but today the Chicago Bears signed Derricus Purdy.  Purdy had a solid senior season at Texas Southern, totaling 34 tackles and one interceptions.  Not many teams threw the ball his way his senior year.
