Jay Cutler: The Best Player On Green Bay’s Team
Lamentably, Jay Cutler is the quarterback for the Chicago Bears, which is my hometown team. I have been cheering for the Bears since I was in diapers, or so my family tells me. I may be dating myself a bit here but I even learned all of the lyrics and moves to a little song known as, “The Super Bowl Shuffle.” And yes, I am aware that the Green Bay Packers are the Chicago Bears’ greatest rival. The two teams have played each other 189 times, including pre-season competition. This makes the Bears/Packers rivalry the oldest in football history. Knowing this information is all the more reason for the Bears to have been on the top of their game this past Sunday in their house, Soldier Field. Not only are there playoff implications, even this early in the season, but the two teams were also playing for coveted and all-important bragging rights.
During Sunday’s Packers/Bears “game,” if you can rightfully call what happened on Sunday afternoon at Soldier Field a game, Chicago fans were rudely awakened to the fact that Jay Cutler is, well, still Jay Cutler. On Sunday, September 28, 2014, the Chicago Bears lost to the Green Bay Packers 38-17. It was a plain old ass-kicking and many of us Bears fans are still feeling the sting. The mortifying loss has led many of the Bears faithful, and sports commentators alike, to wonder whether Jay Cutler should even be allowed to play the position of quarterback at all! To sum things up, on Sunday, we were all invited to Soldier Field to welcome the Packers by throwing our rivals a party. But it as it turned out, the only party that we would be treating Green Bay to was an enormous ‘Interception Party’. Ever the consummate entertainer, Jay Cutler, not only hosted the interception shindig, but played his part as he went on to throw two third-quarter interceptions. Reviews of the party have been mixed. If you are a Packers fan, first off, you suck! Sorry...that was my innate love of the Bears shining through. Anyhow, Packers fans likely not only enjoyed Jay’s party, but are counting down the weeks, days and hours to the next fete. It is safe to assume that anyone who roots for the Green Bay Packers left either their seats at Soldier Field or the couches in front of their televisions at home incredibly happy and anxiously awaiting the next game in the storied rivalry. Those of us who are unfortunate Bears fans were left frustrated, disappointed, baffled and disenchanted as a result of Sunday’s big game. Along with all of those feelings, however, we remain hopeful that things will turn around in the games to come.
So I guess not even Jay Cutler enjoyed his own interception party. What a shame. Photo courtesy of www.operationsports.com
My family and I are not people of means and as such, I often find myself imagining and visualizing what it would be like to have so much money that you can afford to throw it away on all kinds of junk. In the case of the Bears higher ups, it appears that not only do they have money to burn, but also that they have $126 million dollars to throw away on a quarterback voted, “Most Likely to Throw the Ball Away.” For all of us who are just struggling to get ahead and make ends meet, $126 dollars can provide a much-needed financial lift. Now, just for the sake of illustrating my argument, imagine that the CEO of the company where you work decides to give you $126 million dollars not just to do your job, but to do your job horribly! Sounds like a total pipe dream, right? Well you would be wrong because apparently in the NFL, it is just fine to throw away millions on someone who has been tested and failed time after time, after time, after...well, you get the idea.
So for those of us who will likely never see this kind of money in our lifetimes, THIS is what $126 million dollars looks like!!!!!!!! Now please, take a second and allow yourself to regain composure because we’re not quite done yet.
Now the great sports fans of the city of Chicago, myself included, have to put up with this crap for seven (YES, SEVEN; 7...Seriously,
) years!?! Yes, it is incredibly upsetting to have your hometown team’s playoff chances dissipate a little more each time they take the field, but please remember, it could always be worse...You could have Jay Cutler as your quarterback.
