Early 90s VHS (re-)releases of Beastmaster 1+2. German censorship went hard on the first entry of the "saga". Some of the best scenes shamefully didn't make the cut. I don't really mind about the second part. I probably haven't seen it often enough, but... what can I say. IMO it sucks. Even though the story was written by Jim Wynorski, and I usually dig his stuff (Sorceress, Lost Empire, Deathstalker 2). Can't say the same about the first part, though. (As long as it's uncut.) Beastmaster hit cinemas in 1982, just three months after Conan — The Barbarian. It's often considered a Conan rip-off, which IMO is not the case. Like Milius, Beastmaster writer and director Don Coscarelli was most likely influenced by the older Peplum movies. There's actually more parallels to flicks like D'Amato's Ator, which came out just three months after Beastmaster. Also the physice of Marc Singer and Miles O'Keeffe looks pretty much the same. Certainly one of the better entries in the genre! /// Und für die Krauts: neuer Eintrag "The Beastmaster — Im Schatten des Blockbuster-Barbaren" auf barbarenschinken.tumblr.com! ________________________________ #beastmanter #thebeastmaster #germanvhs #vhscollector #vhscoverart #marcsinger #doncoscarelli #jimwynorski #swordandsorcery #barbarianfantasy #heroicfantasy https://www.instagram.com/p/B9XVwH5qdOH/?igshid=zttm614ykei6
