marlene is, essentially, the poster child for the fashion of whatever decade she's in. in the seventies she wears bright, bold colors && patterns ( always being careful so that they don't overpower her own attractiveness, thank you very much ). it was not uncommon to see her in blue or green or red bell bottoms but as she got older, her denim choices start to get a bit more trim fitted, especially after graduation && entering the order, primarily for the sake of mobility, && secondarily for changing tastes. she'd rock those tiny shorts && mini skirts && occasionally those dresses you usually associate with that era, you know what i'm talking about but not often because she fucking loves crop tops. the vast majority of her shirts are cropped in various lengths from average to ones that were basically bras with sleeves.
in the 80's she comes to favor skinny jeans && plaid. in the early eighties, before the attack, she continues to favor bold colors && patterns yet after the attack she starts sticking to more basic colors && patterns. she doesn't want to stand out. she never gets behind the vivid work out apparel look but she continues with the crop tops of course, of course && mini skirts so short she must be careful bending down or on windy days. she's also rather fond of over sized sweaters that dip off one shoulder. she doesn't tease her hair because, really, aren't her curls big enough without tearing apart the ozone ??
modern teenager / young adult marlene is all about skinny jeans && fishnets, bomber jean or leather jackets, oversized cardigans, graphic tees && of course, crop tops because they are her life no matter the era. she gets behind stacking rings && probably gets a septum piercing at eighteen but essentially abandons it by age twenty four / twenty five && has at least one tattoo && it's either feminist or protester derived. she tames her thick eyebrows into the current fashion while still managing to make it look natural && easy.
constants in her looks are always this : red lipstick, a million rings on her fingers ( half of them looking like costume pieces. they are but she wears them all with pride so who's the real winner here ?? ) she's fond of boots, particularly ones with thick, heavy heels so that they, a ) add to her meager height, b ) stand up to activity && c ) work as a weapon should it be needed, although she can be found in trainers && mary janes just not as often.
long story short, marlene is that girl who manages to be fashionable && look effortless while being so no matter what era she's in, i'm envious
