About a year ago I mentioned that the label Requiem Pour Un Twister (Paris, France) was running a sale. It appears they still are and have expanded some of their offerings. This split 7″ of Beat Mark / The Proper Ornaments is wonderful and is only €2 + shipping. This was originally released in 2015.
The write up on Bandcamp mentions how Beat Mark (France) recalls the jazzy feel of Aztec Camera and Orange Juice. The vocals also remind me a bit of Jeanines.
Then there is The Proper Ornaments (UK). Just a list of their other bands is amazing: Ultimate Painting, Veronica Falls and Let’s Wrestle. The Bandcamp page mentions that their work recalls the poppier side of The Velvet Underground.
Finally, as I’ve been pondering a purchase I’ve ended up on Departure Kids (2015 post), Radar Eyes (2020 post) and French Kissing (no post!).

This could not possibly be more British. Lots of tambourine, distorted, echo-y vocals, laid-back pop sound. The vocals sound a bit like Shout Out Louds (who are not British, whatever)

New video by French indie band Beat Mark who are about to release their LP, Howls Of Joy on Ample Play records, Feb 18. The video takes us to LA, London and Paris....we love a good trip.
