“BETWEEN INNOCENCE AND KNOWING”
Beatrice Moore
As the owner of a number of properties in Phoenix’s Grand Avenue corridor, and the proprietor of the Kooky Krafts Shop where she painted this mural in 2013—an enterprise she describes as “Martha Stewart on Acid: Queer, Quirky, Fun & Fabulous Handmade Crafts!”—little wonder that Phoenix New Times has included Beatrice Moore on their list of 100 Creatives and YabYumWest.com refers to her as the avenue’s Grand Dame. YabYum says Moore has been a “force for the good of the ‘hood” since moving to the district in the early 90s. Unlike the trend in so many arts districts however, where chain restaurants and boutiques quickly take over, Moore and partner Tony Zahn are committed to the idea that they can be dedicated to the arts and work toward limiting growth at the same time. Phoenix New Times reports that Moore likes Grand the way it is and won’t mind if the avenue is “never home to fancy coffee shops and cell phone stores.” @yabyumaz @phoenixnewtimes
