moving in with dad after the divorce - beau arlen
pairings: beau arlen x teen!daughter
summary: after the divorce of your parents, you wasted no time of packing up your things and moving to montana to live with your dad. ditching the city for mountains in your backyard.
warnings: divorced parents, arguments/fighting, cursing but not being said.
might make a small series out of these headcanons, but idk how this will do.
everything seemed relatively normal in the relationship, at least from what you have seen since you were a kid. besides what relationship didn't have at least a couple arguments along with the occasional fights. but that seemed what they have been doing lately. more like for the past couple months.
they tried (mostly struggled) not to argue when you and emily weren't around as they didn't want you girls to hear. but when the walls are thin and you can hear your dad's snores from the bedroom. the walls aren't exactly soundproof, really at all.
growing up you and your dad were thick as theives, you were the only one out of your sister and mom who were interested in classic cars. specifically chevy impala's. those were your favorite and your dad's also.
but when you would be in bed and supposed to be asleep hours ago, and you can faintly hear your parents arguing from the kitchen. though this one might be the last, but you don't know. as long as your dad doesn't leave you should be good. because if he leaves then you're stuck with your mom and her new boyfriend.
because if you have to be forced to join another boring as fuck dinner to some restaurant you don't eat food at, or can't pronounce any of the food, you're gonna snap.
there is a complete difference from your dad, the one who would let you stay up way past your bedtime to watch movies or whatever, or even cuddling with him on the couch.
to your mom's boyfriend, the one who tries to control your waking second on earth, not to mention your currently grounded over something stupid. who knew mumbling 'bitch' under you breath could get your grounded. you were seeing if he'd understand a reference to a show, and him saying 'jerk'.
news flash, he didn't say jerk, unless you want to count 'go to your room and your not eating dinner' is the new way of the word, jerk. then you won the jackpot.
the next thing you heard from downstairs is the front door slamming as it was your dad.
he left.
he left you.
well shit.
this didn't go well.
at all.
.....
over the course of the next couple months, you made sure to not be home, so you wouldn't get into trouble. that plan didn't really work for the most part. you loved when your step dad, wasn't home. why? because that was when you'd talk to your dad.
your partner in crime.
the one who'd let you stay up when you weren't supposed to.
anyway, you'd try to lie and say that you were fine and adjusting but the two of you — even you knew that was the stupidest lie ever — he always knew when you lied. even if most times he wouldn't tell your mom.
but when your soft voice said that you missed him. that was when his heart crumbled. it hadn't been easy, more so for you. because you don't like change, on top of your dad leaving for who knows where.
last you knew he was going to montana. why? your ADHD didn't let you pay attention to that. it drowned everything out around you.
so, you really didn't know exactly where he went, outside of him going to montana. so you had saved up for a couple weeks, quit your job in town, which was honestly shit pay, but you got around making the money.
the only people you told that you were moving from the city to montana, were the only two best friends you had, and your sister emily. all your dad had to do was get the custody papers because you were technically seventeen, and not eighteen. then you were your dad's child and he was tour guardian.
when you got on the airplane from florida to montana, which was a long flight if you were being honest. so, you texted your dad on the plane, he had purposely took that week off so he could spend time with you which felt like a new chapter in your life.
when the flight ended and you were at the airport and you got your luggage from the baggage claim, you looked around for your dad, and when you did see him, you didn't waste anytime of running into his arms like a little girl. you clutched onto him like he was the only thing keeping you from crying. though you did cry, but it was more so happy tears, so that was a good thing.
even though you could walk by yourself, you didn't want to let go of your dad he leaned down and grabbed your bags and used one arm to hold you like a child. which he wasn't exactly complaining, because you were with him now.
you aren't going back to florida anytime soon, you were finally free, with your best friend.
that is all that matters.
"i got you, sweetheart." he whispered on your ear as that was the last thing that you heard as moments later everything went dark. "always."
.....
hope you like this!
