Hey Dolls
February is already here and half way through I was excited to open this month’s Birch Box. February is often referred to as the month of love and although and I think it makes a great beauty box theme. This months Birchbox had nothing to do with love and I was a little disappointed they had decided not to go down that route this month
This month’s VIP Birchbox customers has a choice between three print designs which followed a beauty through the decades theme. The box I went for was the 70s the other options were 80s and 90s simply because I liked the design and the colours a little bit better than the other two. I do like the theme, but I still think they should have done that another month and the products in this month’s box didn’t really match this theme either the contents were not bad, it was just a normal Birchbox. Nothing special.
This month’s Birchbox contained 5 products as it usually does of which 2 were full size and the other 3 were travel size! In terms of product sizes, this box was great. The products were a hair styling cream, an colour correcting concealer, an eyeshadow palette and a tinted lip balm.
Let’s look at the products that were included in this month’s Birchbox as always there are my private opinions and that beauty is a very personal thing, everybody is different and what worked for me might not work for you.
Luseta Coconut Milk Hair Mask £26.00 for a full size product
Admittedly, I love a good hair mask as through the winter months my hair is a lot drier as are many other peoples, they make an enormous difference on the feel and quality of your hair. I really enjoyed using the Lustea Coconut Milk Hair Mask, it smells gorgeous it has a coconut scent. I have thick hair and it felt nice after using it.
This hair mask comes in a pretty looking baby blue tube of standard quality. The travel size tube holds 30ml. It is colour safe, sulfate, paraben and gluten free and is recommended for normal to dry hair and need to be left on the hair for 5 mins
Percy & Reed Quite Frankly Flawless Finishing Polish £10.00
I have never tried any Percy & Reed products. I have heard wonderful things about them but have never got around to trying any of their products.
Percy & Reed Quite Frankly Flawless Finishing Polish is a white thick cream that has smell that I wasn’t quite sure what it was. The product comes in a cute tube of standard quality with the Percy & Reed branding. I love how it looks, like with any hair styling product, all you need to do is use a small amount and work it through the hair. This product is designed to smooth, control and groom unruly hair.
This styling cream contains sunflower wax and horse chestnut amongst other ingredients. It doesn’t specify it is designed for specific hair types and it is paraben free. It seemed to work well on my hair and tamed all the unruly bits that want to do their own thing.
ModelCo Conceal and Correct Green Concealer £14.00
I’ve tried a few of Modelco products before and haven’t been a huge fan of them. The ModelCo Conceal and Correct Green Concealer really surprised me, as you all know from previous posts i really suffer from dark circles and redness on my under my eyes. this product made them totally disappear without making me look caked in makeup. It was light and only a Little was needed. The creamy, hydrating formula glides onto skin making it easy to seamlessly blend without dragging the delicate parts of your skin.
The Beauty Crop Eyeshadow Trio in Love You So Latte £7.00
The Beauty Crop Eyeshadow Trio was a nice addition to the box. I don’t tend to buy small eye shadow palettes like this I’m more of a big palette type. This is a handy palette if you’re going away and need to travel light, these small trio palettes might be perfect for you.
I haven’t got around to trying this eyeshadow trio yet but when I swatched them on my arm the seemed to be nice. The packaging is plastic and standard quality.
This little trio is a Birchbox exclusive and a full-size product, in my honest opinion is isn’t something I would buy I think for the price you could get a lot more for your money at the drugstore.
Pixi Shea Butter Lip Balm in Pixi Pink £8.00
I am a huge fan of Pixi I just love their products and this Pixi Shea Butter Lip Balm in Pixi Pink was no exception. I love the product packaging, it looks simple but elegant. it is made of plastic, it doesn’t feel thin or cheap, it is rather thick and sturdy. There is a lot of product in it, 2.8cm to be exact and even better it lasts ages.
It contains vitamin E, shea butter and other ingredients, it left my dry lips feeling incredibly smooth and soft. The little pink hint gave my lips a nice warmth to them without looking like I’m wearing a lipstick, the colour is a fuchsia pink and it is buildable if that was what you wanted. However, it is still a lip balm not a lipstick. I would buy this Pixi Lip Balm
Overall, I liked the box design and the products contained nice. it wasn’t what I thought was fitting for this month and what other companies had gone for. A love yourself and others, romantic box was what I was expecting which unfortunately, is not what Birchbox went for this month and I was left feeling rather disappointed.
Did you get this month’s Birchbox box? What did your box contain? What did you think of the products? Have you tried any of the products listed? Let me know your experiences!
